The\u00a0Oklahoma State Cowboys will host the Washington State Cougars on Saturday, September 4th<\/sup> at 6:10 pm EST at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma.<\/p>\n

The two teams will meet for the fourth time and second time in three seasons with Washington State leading the series 2-1, but losing a 39-13 in their 2008 season opener to the Cowboys.<\/p>\n

The Cougars have been plummeting out of contention for several seasons and finally hit bottom finishing their 2009 campaign with a dismal 1-11 record. They are just 3-22 under Paul Wulff who enters his third season as head coach. While it\u2019s obvious a retooling of personnel and a new mind-set is needed, there are so many problems one must wonder where to start.<\/p>\n

Offensively WSU was hopeless last season ranking 119th\u00a0in the country by scoring an anemic 12 points a game.\u00a0 The defense wasn\u2019t much better, ranking 118th\u00a0and allowing 38.5 points a game.<\/p>\n

Jeff Tuel will take the snaps in Saturday\u2019s opener after playing in just four full games last year.\u00a0 He finished 2009 going 71-121 for 789 yards and six TD and five INTs.<\/p>\n

He will get some assistance in the form of running back James Montgomery who is equally inexperienced playing just three games a year ago.\u00a0 He ran for 167 yards and one TD in those games. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Their top two receivers, Jared Karstetter and Gino Simone, will return as well after combining for 870 yards and seven TD last year.\u00a0 The running and passing games success will obviously be based on the play of the offensive line which struggled a lot last year.\u00a0The defense was porous allowing 38.5 points a game.<\/p>\n

That should bode well for the Cowboys who went 9-4 last year, but concluded the season with a 21-7 loss to Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl.<\/p>\n

Now they will need to retool after losing best player Dez Bryant to the NFL, as well as standouts Russell Okung, Zac Robinson, Keith Toston and Perrish Cox<\/p>\n

The quarter back position has been handed to junior Brandon Weeden who saw limited action in 2009, but did show he has the skills to be the starter this year.\u00a0 He went 15-24 for 248 yards and four TDs with just one INT while leading the Cowboys to a win over Colorado.<\/p>\n

His top target will be WR Hubert Anyiam who led the Cowboys in receiving pulling down 42 passes for 515 yards and three TDs.<\/p>\n

Kendall Hunter will assume command of the running game and will look to regain his status as the team\u2019s leading rusher before an injury-plagued 2009 campaign.\u00a0In 2008 Hunter ran for 1,555 yards and 16 TDs.<\/p>\n

The defense will have to fill in a lot of vacancies.\u00a0The secondary struggled in 2009 and will now be missing Perrish Cox.\u00a0 Their top three tacklers last year are also gone, but sack leader Ugo Chinasa returns.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think the Cougars will be able to contain Kendall Hunter in this one and he should have a huge game. OSU has their own problems on the field, but they shouldn\u2019t factor into this one. WSU has lost 19 times by more than three touchdowns. So the Cowboys should cover the spread.<\/p>\n
