Date<\/strong>: Aug. 26 – 29 Admittedly, I haven\u2019t warmed up to the PGA\u2019s \u201cplayoffs\u201d just yet. Sorry, but nothing is bigger than the majors.<\/p>\n However, from a betting (and viewing) perspective, there\u2019s plenty to gain from FedEx Cup \u201cplayoff\u201d tournaments.<\/p>\n Beginning with the Barclays this week, we\u2019ll see some amazing fields.<\/p>\n Here are the main picks on my radar this week.<\/p>\n Tiger Woods<\/strong><\/p>\n Barclays odds: +1215<\/p>\n Tiger gets his own category this week because he\u2019s not an elite pick, a contender, a solid pick or even a sleeper. He\u2019s nothing more than a golfer everyone will follow closely this week. I\u2019m just including his name so you don\u2019t forget about him. Don\u2019t pick him or do anything crazy like that. He\u2019s mentally checked out for the year.<\/p>\n Phil Mickelson<\/strong><\/p>\n Barclays odds: +1215<\/p>\n Lefty Mickelson gets his own category this week because of his consistently high odds to win. You could do worse than choose him this week. He was a respectable 12th<\/sup> at the PGA Championship and he cracked the top 20 at least year\u2019s Barclays, notching two eagles on the way.<\/p>\n Rory McIlroy<\/strong><\/p>\n Barclays odds: +1215<\/p>\n Careful here. McIlroy is quickly becoming a star and recognizable face on Tour \u2013 and the books are starting to get manipulative about it, putting his odds at the top alongside Tiger\u2019s and Phil\u2019s. The host course, Ridgewood Country Club, is more about ball striking, scrambling and putting, whereas McIlroy is more about using his power to make shots few others can.<\/p>\n Steve Stricker<\/strong><\/p>\n Barclays odds: +1615<\/p>\n His all-around game and ability to scramble and knock down big putts make him intriguing. However, if you\u2019ve read my picks over the last two seasons, you\u2019ll know I never back Stricker in the big tournaments. His nerves can\u2019t handle the pressure. Jim Furyk<\/strong><\/p>\n Barclays odds: +2550<\/p>\n Furyk has the ball-striking pedigree and scrambling ability to warrant consideration this week. He was 12th<\/sup> at Ridgewood in 2008 and has flirted with the big win all season. He\u2019s certainly earned it but can he string four straight good rounds together?<\/p>\n Matt Kuchar<\/strong><\/p>\n Barclays odds: +3250<\/p>\n Kuchar has to be the educated choice this week. He leads the Tour with nine top-10s this season. He leads the Tour in scrambling. He leads the Tour in all-around ranking. He\u2019s 10th<\/sup> in greens and second in adjusted scoring. The guy is absolutely locked in right now.<\/p>\n Zach Johnson<\/strong><\/p>\n Barclays odds: +4550<\/p>\n The good thing about star-studded fields: they relegate relatively big names like Zach Johnson to \u201csleeper\u201d betting value. Johnson hasn\u2019t set the world on fire this year but any tournament with the words \u201cball striking\u201d attached to it put him on my radar. Not a bad pick considering his pedigree and value.<\/p>\n Bo Van Pelt<\/strong><\/p>\n Barclays odds: +6050<\/p>\n Van Pelt gives a nice ROI and is having a good year; usually, bettors get one or the other. Van Pelt is 31st<\/sup> or better in scrambling, scoring and greens. It\u2019s just a matter of putting everything together and finally scoring a \u201cW.\u201d<\/p>\n The wily Furyk could steal the show and I like Johnson\u2019s sleeper potential. However, I almost feel like I owe Matt Kuchar the respect of my pick.
