The daily news gets an ugly start this week, as a gross rule technicality and a trade that wasn\u2019t to be are the top headline makers today.<\/p>\n
PGA news: Dustin Johnson eliminated from PGA Championship playoff on technicality<\/strong><\/p>\n Nothing against Martin Kaymer. He played a great 75 holes of golf over the weekend and deserves his PGA Championship title.<\/p>\n But you have to feel for Dustin Johnson. He qualified for a three-hole playoff with Kaymer and Bubba Watson after finishing at 11-under on Sunday. Then, disaster struck. PGA rules officials claimed Johnson grounded his club in a bunker on the 18th<\/sup> hole, docked him two strokes and eliminated him from contention.<\/p>\n Johnson didn\u2019t protest anything to do with grounding his club. He did let it rest for a moment or two before hitting his approach on 18. But a\u00a0bunker? <\/em>I\u2019m sorry. No lip, no rake, and it was FULL OF SPECTATORS. No way that\u2019s a bunker. Nevertheless, the PGA claimed it was and slapped Johnson on the wrist. What an embarrassment for the sport.<\/p>\n NHL news: Leafs fail to move Kaberle before deadline<\/strong><\/p>\n After months of talking the talk, Brian Burke couldn\u2019t walk the walk with Tomas Kaberle. The outspoken Toronto Maple Leafs GM had until midnight to move his puck-moving defenseman \u2013 preferably for a top-six forward or possibly for future assets \u2013 before Kaberle\u2019s no-trade clause reactivated. Burke failed. <\/p>\n Burks says he never received an offer worth accepting. What he failed to realize was that getting\u00a0anything <\/em>for Kaberle probably would\u2019ve been smart since Kaberle\u2019s contract ends after 2010-11 and he can walk, leaving Toronto with nothing in return.<\/p>\n NFL news: Tebow scores touchdown in debut; Chris Chambers marries his own stalker<\/strong><\/p>\n Is it news? Maybe not. But most football fans have an eye on Tim Tebow\u2019s NFL career whether they admit it or not.<\/p>\n For anyone who wants to know: Tebow went 8 of 13 for 105 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals over the weekend. He didn\u2019t throw a touchdown pass but he flashed his vintage form, ending the game by scrambling seven yards, running over safety Kyries Hebert and scoring a touchdown.<\/p>\n Yes, the Ohio faithful in attendance booed him passionately. They haven\u2019t forgotten.<\/p>\n And yes, Chris Chambers married his own stalker. Wait \u2013 what!?<\/p>\n Technically, it\u2019s true. The Chiefs wideout married Stacey Bernice Saunders last month. Saunders was his former mistress \u2013 the same former mistress who terrorized his wife with harassing phone calls. Chambers eventually asked for a temporary restraining order on Saunders. Then he divorced his wife and married Saunders two days after that.<\/p>\n So I guess they\u2019ll live, uh, happily ever after?<\/p>\n And I suppose Saunders has given hope to stalkers everywhere.<\/p>\n <\/strong> Sports water cooler headlines and sports gossip for Monday August 16th, 2010.
