For three years St. Louis has been starting players who would be second- and third-stringers on other rosters, and using backups who should not even be in the league.

It takes time to build a complete roster, even in the socialistic NFL.

So welcome to the NFL, No. 1 draft pick Sam Bradford, where your No. 1 receiver is Donnie Avery and the rest of the wideouts are nondescript. Bradford has shown spurts of talent in camp but there are also reports that he is having trouble with reads. Will he start? Who knows at this point? A lot might depend of whether the offensive line is better than last year.

Jason Smith, last year’s Rams No. 1 pick, should start this season. And the offense will again and at least for now be centered around the running of workhorse Stephen Jackson. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Whether Bradford lines up under center in Game 1 or the Rams let A.J. Feeley take snaps until they figure out how much protection there will be, there is no getting around the fact that this team has very few playmakers on offense. That has been painfully evident in training camp.

The Rams gave up more points than all but one team last year, and for good reason – there aren’t many good players on that side of the ball either. DE Chris Long and middle LB James Laurinaitis can play a bit, but lack of pocket pressure stresses out an overall weak linebacker group and a secondary that is at least average and can look solid against below-average offenses.

The Rams drafted three pass-rushers – Hall Davis, Eugene Sims and George Selvie – in the later rounds to solidify the front 7.

THE WAY IT LOOKS NOW – Coach Steve Spagnuolo earned his stripes building the Giants defense of the late 2000s, and his attacking style employed by mediocre players often produces big plays for the opposition. Spags does catch a break with this year’s schedule – after the opener against Arizona the Rams play four straight non-playoff teams (Oakland, Washington, Seattle and Detroit).

Next Up: More Teams Coming Soon

Ready to start NFL Gambling Online today?

NFL BETTING SEASON PROMO FROM BETUS: A 100% match play bonus for 1st Time players Up To $500.
