Another 11-5 record and a spot in the NFC’s postseason tournament reminded the vast majority of NFL franchises how dependable this team is on a larger level.

CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE TOP CAPPERS FOR NFL FOOTBALL BETTING THIS SEASON —–>

The bad news for Philadelphia is that it once again failed to get out of the NFC playoffs alive. Actually, in most years, the Eagles do manage to win at least one postseason contest if not two, but not in 2009.

The Dallas Cowboys, who simply had Philly’s number all season long, crushed coach Andy Reid’s club in the NFC Wild Card Game and that 34-14 romp came just six days after a 24-0 whitewash of Philadelphia just six days earlier in the regular-season finale, a game which deprived the Eagles of an NFC East crown. Evidently, Philadelphia couldn’t figure out Dallas, and that as much as anything was the reason why this good but not legendary franchise couldn’t return to the Super Bowl. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

In 2010, the outlook is decidedly grim in the City of Brotherly Love. It’s impossible to either say or see how this team has gotten better. The Eagles are far worse than the Cowboys; instead of closing the gap, they’ve fallen farther behind.

The first, last and predominant reason for this is the fact that Philadelphia no longer has the quarterback who has been the on-field icon of the franchise ever since the 2001 season. Donovan McNabb led the Eagles to the NFC Championship Game in that 2001 campaign, but his team was clearly (though not substantially) inferior to the St. Louis Rams.

In subsequent years, the Eagles would return to the NFC title tilt, and a pair of back-to-back home-field losses – to Tampa Bay in the 2002 season and Carolina in the 2003 campaign – overshadowed the fact that Philadelphia managed to get that far in the first place.

McNabb finally did reach the Super Bowl in the 2004 season, but his shaky and nerve-addled performance in a 24-21 loss to New England only seemed to damage his reputation even more. Philadelphia made it back to the NFC title round in the 2008 season, but a close-but-not-quite loss to Arizona denied the Eagles another moment in the sun.

After the 2009 season fell short of expectations, McNabb was let go.

What has to rankle Eagles fans – well, at least those fans who supported McNabb over the past decade – is not necessarily No. 5’s departure in and of itself, but the sickening awareness that he’s now a member of the in-division Washington Redskins.

If McNabb had landed in Carolina or Arizona, it would be one thing; but for the longtime Eagle to now wear rival colors in the NFC East has to make a lot of Philly fanatics furious.

It’s interesting that Mike Shanahan, the coach of the Skins, is – like Reid – a West Coast offense disciple who believes in the short passing game.

McNabb won’t just remain in the division; he’ll go to the one coach in the NFC East who has more credentials than the highly successful Reid, and the other coach who runs a similar offensive system.

Eagles 2010 Outlook

Philadelphia will watch Washington rise under McNabb. With Kevin Kolb taking over at quarterback, it’s going to be a long year for the Eagles, who will finish last in the NFC East.

Eagles 2010 Futures

Super Bowl Odds: +3050
Conference Odds: +1415
NFC East Odds: +405

2010 Eagles Predictions

Place they’ll finish in NFC East: 4th
Place they’ll finish in NFC Conference: 10th
Over/Under Season Wins Prediction: Under 8.5 Wins

***** Exclusive 100% Sportsbook Bonus!
