Date<\/strong>: Thursday July 29 – Sunday Aug. 01 It\u2019s not quite the silly season in the PGA \u2013 after all, there\u2019s still a major championship left on the docket \u2013 but we\u2019re seeing plenty of tournaments pop up with potential for low scores. Greenbrier\u2019s host course this week is a tight little track that will reward the accurate ball strikers with a penchant for going low.<\/p>\n It wouldn\u2019t be a huge surprise to see some comically low scores just as we did at the Canadian Open last week.<\/p>\n Here are the top picks on my radar.<\/p>\n Jim Furyk<\/strong><\/p>\n Greenbrier Classic odds: +1215<\/p>\n Furyk is tough to figure this week. He\u2019s the highest-ranked player in the field at fifth in the world. He\u2019s 18th<\/sup> on Tour in scrambling and 17th<\/sup> in adjusted scoring average too. But Furyk also appears to be tiring. He missed the cut at the British Open a couple weeks back. He gives you considerably lower value than the rest of the field, so I\u2019d avoid him.<\/p>\n Matt Kuchar<\/strong><\/p>\n Greenbrier Classic odds: +1850<\/p>\n The numbers certainly point Kuchar\u2019s way this week. He\u2019s cracked the top 10 in four of his last five Tour starts and his peripheral stats are great: 14th<\/sup> in greens, seventh in scoring average, first in all-around ranking. A win is within reach. Nick Watney<\/strong><\/p>\n Greenbrier Classic odds: +2050<\/p>\n Watney looks like another excellent play this week \u2013 and at better value than the other top contenders. He\u2019s a great ball striker \u2013 eighth-best on Tour \u2013 and he makes birdies, ranking 12th<\/sup> in that regard. He\u2019s playing well at the moment as well, riding two straight seventh-place finishes.<\/p>\n Jeff Overton<\/strong><\/p>\n Greenbrier Classic odds: +2550<\/p>\n Still seeking his first PGA Tour win but Overton seems to be creeping closer to that feat. He\u2019s a par breaker \u2013 10th<\/sup> on par-3s and 17th<\/sup> on par-4s \u2013 so he has the goods to post some low scores this weekend.<\/p>\n Brendon De Jonge<\/strong><\/p>\n Greenbrier Classic odds: +3550<\/p>\n If you like riding the hot hand, maybe De Jonge is your guy? He\u2019s posted nine consecutive rounds under par \u2013 the best active streak on Tour. He\u2019s also 27th<\/sup> in putting and that could come in handy if the course dries out and the greens get fast on Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n Greg Chalmers<\/strong><\/p>\n Greenbrier Classic odds: +5250<\/p>\n Finished fourth on a similar track last week at the Canadian Open and is playing consistent golf right now, with eight straight rounds of par or better to his name. Chalmers is also a top-20 guy in putting, scrambling and sand saves, so he can bail himself out if he gets into a trouble. A solid sleeper.<\/p>\n There\u2019s no denying that the field this week is, well, weak. When the field lacks star power, I like perusing the list of competitors and finding names that stick out. Nick Watney\u2019s jumps out to me. He plays at a higher level than most of the guys in this field and he\u2019s playing good golf of late. He won\u2019t be intimidated.
