If Tim Tebow really was the greatest player ever to play college football, how will Florida fare in his absence? Is the door wide open for Alabama to repeat as national champs?<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a predicted standings breakdown for the SEC. SEC EAST DIVISION<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. Florida No disrespect to South Carolina and Tennessee, but only Florida and Georgia intrigue me in the SEC East. As good as Tebow was, bettors have to give the rest of the Gators a bit more respect. This is still an outstanding football program. It still has a superb offensive line and that should give new starting pivot John Brantley time to think and make plays. Interestingly enough, I think it\u2019s Florida\u2019s weakened pass rush that could be the bigger headache.<\/p>\n Georgia should win plenty of games \u2013 and they will be shootouts. Even as a redshirt freshman, Aaron Murray looks like he\u2019ll be a playmaker. A.J. Green will make things easy for him catching passes too. But Georgia won\u2019t hang with the SEC\u2019s elite unless it plays better defense in 2010. I\u2019m not sure it will.<\/p>\n SEC WEST DIVISION<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. Alabama The West looks far more intriguing to me in that I see way more teams playing good football. At the same time, though, I still rank Alabama way above any other team in the whole conference. The Crimson Tide have so much going for them \u2013 especially on offense, where all the cornerstones of their national championship team return. <\/strong><\/span> Mark Ingram is a workhorse running back and the reigning Heisman Trophy winner. He returns to a talented backfield that also boasts a great change-of-pace runner in Trent Richardson. Greg McElroy is a caretaker in some people\u2019s eyes but no one can deny that he does that job well.<\/p>\n He has a phenomenal downfield target in Julio Jones, who could be an impact player in the NFL one day soon.<\/p>\n Sure, the \u201cD\u201d lost some important pieces, but it also returns some monsters. Marcell Dareus was the BCS title game MVP and returns to terrorize quarterbacks. Kerry Murphy is also back at defensive tackle. The Crimson Tide will be just fine.<\/p>\n Not everyone will agree with me but I think Arkansas could be Alabama\u2019s best competition in 2010.<\/p>\n Is Ryan Mallett the nation\u2019s top prospect at quarterback? Last season certainly suggests as much. He threw for over 3,600 yards and 30 touchdowns.<\/p>\n On \u201cD,\u201d the Razorbacks forced the sixth most turnovers in the country last year, but all that gambling hurt more than it helped. Arkansas was 99th<\/sup> in the country last year and won\u2019t make any real noise unless it improves in that regard.<\/p>\n Auburn got itself noticed last season when it almost dethroned Alabama in the Iron Bowl. Even without Ben Tate, its running game should remain strong thanks to a stellar line and the addition of Cameron Newton, a threat with his feet, at quarterback. But these guys allowed 27.5 points per game last year. Eight starters return but the \u201cD\u201d was so bad in 2010 that I wonder if that\u2019s a good thing.<\/p>\n SEC East champion: <\/strong>Florida. Maybe Tebow\u2019s departure will be a blessing in disguise for the program. The Gators can show us that they\u2019re far from a one-man team.<\/p>\n SEC West champion: <\/strong>Alabama. In a walk.
