The games are always thrilling to watch and it\u2019s a fun conference to handicap. Here\u2019s how I expect the standings to play out.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a predicted breakdown of the Big Ten conference.<\/p>\n BIG TEN CONFERENCE<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. Ohio State The Ohio State Buckeyes are usually king of the Big Ten \u2013 they\u2019ve \u2013 and I don\u2019t think anything will change in 2010. Terrelle Pryor had his share of doubters early on last season but he matured in the second half and could really break out this season. Pryor has plenty of help, with seven other starters returning on offense, and the running game will be outstanding if coach Jim Tressel\u2019s endorsement rings true. I see a fairly significant gap between the Buckeyes and the rest of the conference. Ohio State may even factor into the BCS title discussion. <\/p>\n Plucky Iowa will give OSU a decent run. Its \u201cD\u201d was outstanding last year, allowing just 277 yards per game, and the Hawkeyes were very resilient, going 11-2 despite trailing in all of their games before the regular-season finale. Iowa\u2019s offense was brutal last year, ranking 10th<\/sup> in rushing, scoring and total offense. Hopefully a healthy season from Ricky Stanzi under center can rectify that problem.<\/p>\n Wisconsin deserves consideration near the top of the Big Ten if for no other reason than its easy schedule. It faces only three teams that were better than .500 in 2009. Michigan State hopes to make strides in 2010 on Kirk Cousins\u2019 shoulders. He helped make the Spartans a top-25 squad in passing efficiency.<\/p>\n But a difficult schedule could derail their hopes.<\/p>\n What about Penn State? Statistically, it\u2019s been the second best offensive team in the conference over the last two years. But there may be too many obstacles to overcome in 2010. Quarterback Daryll Clark is gone; Penn State must face Alabama, Ohio State and Iowa on the road.<\/p>\n Even a decent Penn State team could post a mediocre record.<\/p>\n Michigan and Purdue are at least in the hunt. The Wolverines have endured some ugly seasons of late but they return 15 starters and many experts believe Tate Forcier is on the verge of becoming the Big Ten\u2019s top offensive weapon.
