We\u2019ve covered each major conference and picked a winner; now it\u2019s time to get more specific and break down exactly how each conference will play out. What do we make of the Big 12 this year now that the ultimate winner, Colt McCoy, has left Texas? The conference is probably wide open. Whatever happens, just try to enjoy what may be the final year in the Big 12\u2019s existence.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a predicted breakdown of the Big Twelve conference.<\/p>\n 1. Nebraska Some bettors will worry about Ndamukong Suh leaving Nebraska but I think we have to give the rest of the team more credit. This team returns nine offensive starters and had the sixth-best running game in the nation last year.<\/p>\n Suh is gone but any team with the country\u2019s top scoring defense requires more than one defensive standout to accomplish that.<\/p>\n Blaine Gabbert threw for over 3,500 yards and 24 scores last year.<\/p>\n He\u2019s a Heisman Trophy candidate and big reason why Missouri will get plenty of support as the pick to win the North. But can the Tigers keep enough points off the board? I\u2019m not so sure.<\/p>\n There\u2019s a huge gap after these top two teams. Of the rest, I like Kansas State the best, mainly because the other \u201ccontender,\u201d Colorado, has a such a tough schedule.<\/p>\n 1. Texas Tech 4. Texas A&M You\u2019ll find tons of different permutations if you read more than one prediction of how the South will play out. I\u2019m feeling lucky and making the risky pick of Texas Tech to win the division.<\/p>\n My logic is that Texas Tech is ready to win now, with plenty of offensive and defensive starters returning, and its defense should finally improve.<\/p>\n Texas will still field the South\u2019s best defense in all likelihood but needs a transition period offensively after saying goodbye to McCoy…we think.<\/p>\n What about Garrett Gilbert? He already has a BCS championship game under his belt, so maybe he\u2019ll handle the pressure better than expected. Oklahoma already got used to life without Sam Bradford last year but underperformed in that situation.<\/p>\n Big 12 North champion: Nebraska<\/strong>. I like the way the Cornhuskers swim against the current in the Big 12.
