Not only did Alabama earn its first ever Heisman winner in RB Mark Ingram, they dispatched Florida in the SEC title game and topped a Colt McCoy-less Texas team in the BCS final. Even after defenders bolted to the NFL, ’Bama still has maybe the deepest team in the country.

Tide pivot Greg McElroy is now a battle-tested senior, and he only has the best backfield in the NCAA and an elite WR in Julio Jones to assist him.

Though there are new starters on defense, Saban has done a great job at recruiting oodles of talent. However, getting through the SEC is, of course, a minefield.

Team Strengths:

Perhaps only Virginia Tech boasts a backfield as impressive as the Tide. Heisman winner Ingram returns as a junior, and he is backed up by outstanding sophomore Trent Richardson, who only found himself on the freshman All-American team in ’09. Highly touted redshirt freshman Eddie Lacy provides further depth.

The defense loses studs like Rolando McClain and Javier Arenas, but it is still very solid from top-to-bottom. Mike linebacker Donta Hightower is a beast, and linebacker prospect Alfy Hill (6”4, 245) must have been produced in a lab.

McElroy should also put up prolific stats.

Team Weaknesses:

’Bama must replace graduated TE Colin Peek. The likely successor is hulking former D-lineman Michael Williams. The Tide also must break in a new kicker and punter; Leigh Tiffin and P.J. Fitzgerald were both long-time stalwarts. If a conference game goes down to the wire (as they are prone to do in the SEC) the youngsters might get the jitters.

The Tide also lose a lot of explosiveness in Arenas.

2010-2011 Alabama Football Prediction: 13-1

The defending champs’ schedule is as daunting as it can be. Alabama must play LSU, South Carolina and Arkansas on the road and get Penn State, Florida and hated Auburn at home.

Though they may be favored in all of its games, I don’t see ’Bama getting through this gauntlet completely unscathed.

Check in with CappersPicks.com Best NCAA Football Sportsbook Review daily for exclusive College gambling bonus specials, and betting promotions.
