Sure, Brett Favre stiffed them last year but after the job Mark Sanchez did, nobody is even thinking about that Wrangler\u2019s spokesperson.<\/p>\n CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE TOP CAPPERS FOR NFL FOOTBALL BETTING THIS SEASON —–><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n It was another banner offseason for the Jets but at some point, one has to wonder if they are sort of becoming the Washington Redskins east.<\/p>\n This is now the third straight offseason where they are opening up their wallets in free agency, wheeling-and-dealing during the draft and making moves to improve their club via external measures, opposed to from inside.<\/p>\n The new faces this year include troubled wideout Santonio Holmes, beleaguered cornerback Antonio Cromartie and over-the-hill veterans Jason Taylor and LaDainian Tomlinson. The offense should be interesting to watch as the offensive line cut Alan Faneca, and removed Thomas Jones and Leon Washington from the backfield. Meanwhile, they added Tomlinson and Holmes.<\/p>\n The key to this unit will be Sanchez. He\u2019ll have less speed in the backfield without Washington and he won\u2019t have him as a check-down valve. His receivers look great on paper with Holmes and Braylon Edwards, but both have had troubles on and off the field, and may be just decent \u2013 not game-breaking \u2013 receivers that we previously believed them to be.<\/p>\n Jones and Washington were always excellent receivers out of the backfield and somebody is going to have to step up as the guy to move the chains. Dustin Keller figures to be that target and he has progressed well in his two years in the NFL.<\/p>\n The lack of speed out of the backfield could really be a bigger problem than most want to admit. The Jets lost a good guard in Faneca and their running backs now are simply between-the-tackle carriers. It\u2019s a fairly basic unit to stuff, which will force the game on Sanchez quite a bit.<\/p>\n There is the hope that fourth-round pick Joe McKnight can offer what Washington provided, but it\u2019s still a curious move for a team to remove Washington when they are aiming for a Championship.<\/p>\n Sanchez made some big throws last year but looking at the overall numbers, they weren\u2019t pretty. Just 12 touchdowns and 20 interceptions won\u2019t get the job done \u2013 especially not when there are Super Bowl aspirations. Without a doubt, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has some work cut out for him even though most people simply assume this unit is improved.<\/p>\n On defense, the Jets added Cromartie to their secondary, which looks good, but so did the addition of Lito Sheppard a couple of years ago. Sheppard was released this offseason. First-round pick, Kyle Wilson, should be a player right away and they might need him if the sour attitude of Darrelle Revis continues.<\/p>\n On the whole, Rex Ryan will get the most out of this defense but just like the offense, it looks improved on paper but that may not fully be the case on the field.<\/p>\n It\u2019s easy to look at how the Jets played in the playoffs and to expect them to be Super Bowl contenders again. But don\u2019t forget that they had a rough stretch midseason where they lost six of seven games (including bad losses to Oakland, Jacksonville and Buffalo).<\/p>\n They still finished 9-7 overall. The Dolphins and Patriots should be improved and with plenty of pressure on them as they move into the new stadium, the Jets will be one of the more surprising flops of 2010.<\/p>\n Super Bowl Odds: +1615 Place they\u2019ll finish in AFC East: 3rd <\/strong> It’s another season making NFL previews and Super Bowl predictions for the New York Jets.
