(1) New York Yankees (45-27): <\/strong>Javier Vazquez\u2019s return to form has been a huge help. And big C.C. is heating up with a 4-0 record in June.<\/p>\n 2. (7) Texas Rangers (43-28): <\/strong>Bad luck for the Rangers that the Angels are getting hot just as they\u2019ve won 10 straight. But Texas has to be excited about its team. Nelson Cruz is back and some pitching help could come soon via trade.<\/p>\n 3. (6) New York Mets (41-30): <\/strong>Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey\u2019s delightful season is one of the year\u2019s strangest stories.<\/p>\n 4. (16) Chicago White Sox (36-34): <\/strong>Winners of eight straight. I\u2019ll pat myself on the back for not writing them off last month. This is a talented team and guys like Gavin Floyd are really starting to turn it around.<\/p>\n 5. (11) Los Angeles Angels (41-33): <\/strong>Yet another new team hops into the top five. There\u2019s no one reason for their improved play but Jered Weaver has been a legit No. 1 starter and Joel Pineiro is improving quickly.<\/p>\n 6. (5) Atlanta Braves (42-30): <\/strong>Stumbled a bit on the road in interleague play but they return home for the weekend. They\u2019re 24-7 at Turner Field.<\/p>\n 7. (4) Boston Red Sox (43-30): <\/strong>If John Lackey can get his game back on track, the Red Sox will factor into the playoff picture after all.<\/p>\n 8. (2) Tampa Bay Rays (42-29): <\/strong>I can\u2019t help but think their slump won\u2019t last. There are just too many outstanding players on this team. That said, their pitching staff is due to regress slightly.<\/p>\n 9. (8) Minnesota Twins (40-31): <\/strong>The pitching remains strong but baseball\u2019s No. 5 offense in 2009 has slipped to No. 11 this year. Joe Mauer is probably to blame for that stat.<\/p>\n 10. (13) St. Louis Cardinals (40-31): <\/strong>Back on top after beating on the Blue Jays. And Matt Holliday is finally heating up.<\/p>\n 11. (14) San Diego Padres (42-29): <\/strong>They just won\u2019t go away. Adrian Gonzalez continues to be, arguably, baseball\u2019s most underrated all-around player. <\/strong><\/span> 12. (12) Cincinnati Reds (40-33): <\/strong>Starting to heat up again but you have to wonder if they should look into acquiring a pitcher.<\/p>\n 13. (17) Philadelphia Phillies (37-32): <\/strong>Could Jimmy Rollins be the lift they need? His walkoff homer on Wednesday was a thing of beauty but it\u2019s too early to know if he\u2019ll stay healthy.<\/p>\n 14. (10) San Francisco Giants (39-31): <\/strong>A big reason why they\u2019re in the playoff hunt: Aubrey Huff has picked up the offensive slack for the underwhelming Pablo Sandoval this season.<\/p>\n 15. Detroit Tigers (38-32): <\/strong>Not playing bad baseball by any means but they\u2019ve lost two in a row and everyone above them seems to be streaking.<\/p>\n 16. (3) Los Angeles Dodgers (38-33): <\/strong>Weren\u2019t they baseball\u2019s hottest team a few weeks ago? Now they\u2019ve lost six consecutive games. Andre Ethier still doesn\u2019t look healthy.<\/p>\n 17. (18) Colorado Rockies (38-33): <\/strong>Jason Hammel is suddenly untouchable but Ubaldo Jimenez gets hit hard for the first time all year. Go figure.<\/p>\n 18. (15) Toronto Blue Jays (38-34): <\/strong>Teams have figured out this impatient group of hackers. Jose Bautista and Ricky Romero continue to impress, but the Jays\u2019 playoff dream appears over.<\/p>\n 19. (27) Seattle Mariners (30-41): <\/strong>The pressure is off now and they\u2019ve won six straight games. Too little, too late? It hurts that they\u2019ve gained no ground on the streaking Rangers.<\/p>\n 20. (22) Florida Marlins (35-36): <\/strong>New manager. Six and a half games out of first. There could be still hope for the Marlins this year.<\/p>\n 21.
