The Mountaineers also return 10 defensive starters, so they could be formidable.<\/p>\n Pittsburgh (+250) <\/strong>has the weapons to keep pace with West Virginia\u2019s rushing attack; the Panthers averaged 180-plus yards per game last year with Dion Lewis leading the way. He was as good as any freshman in the country, running for 1,799 yards and 17 scores. But will the quarterback position be Pitt\u2019s downfall? Pat Bostik red-shirted in 2009 but still has a long way to go. Connecticut (+250)? <\/strong>Connecticut? The Huskies are creating lots of buzz in a different sport than usual. Their O-line is amazing and that\u2019s good news for tailback Jordan Todman. It\u2019s not fully clear who will be the man behind center, as both Zach Frazier and Cody Endres started last season. Even if their passing game works out, UConn struggles at times against the pass on \u201cD.\u201d<\/p>\n Cincinnati\u2019s <\/strong>odds slip to\u00a0+500 <\/strong>this year after the Bearcats lost some crucial pieces. Gone are head coach Marty Kelly, quarterback Tony Pike and wideout Mardy Gilyard. Can Zach Collaros be the man in this efficient offensive unit? And what about Cincy\u2019s defense, which returns only five starters and struggles against the run?<\/p>\n Rutgers (+500) <\/strong>is considered a year away from being a top-notch program by most bettors. It has some good pieces in place \u2013 a strong defensive line, a versatile offensive weapon in Mohamed Sanu and the Big East\u2019s most experienced quarterback in Tom Savage. But the Scarlet Knights\u2019 linebacking corps looks to be a major hole.<\/p>\n South Florida (+500) <\/strong>is yet another team that believes it can win the Big East title. It has one of the most intriguing players in the conference in B.J. Daniels and, while its defense is inexperienced, it has an outstanding secondary.<\/p>\n THE PICK<\/strong><\/p>\n Rutgers and South Florida are still maturing, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati seem to be reloading and UConn still isn\u2019t good enough on both sides of the ball. To me, that leaves West Virginia. They\u2019re no slam-dunk with Geno Smith but he has lots of weapons around him and the Mountaineers\u2019 defense is experienced.
