The Red Fury is in great form and makes their return with the core of an impressive European Championship side of 2008. Their tight passing game and extended periods of possession are skillfully crafted and executed flawlessly and finished by the fearsome striker duo of Fernando Torres and David Villa. With Fabregas, Iniesta, and Xavi manning the midfield, this team is the one to beat.<\/p>\n Spain defends well as a team and has a top-notch goalkeeper in Casillas. They are loaded with talent such as Messi, Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano, and Inter\u2019s Diego Milito.<\/p>\n It will be a plus having Maradona and Messi starting from the beginning, and could be the difference in this year\u2019s outcome.<\/p>\n Known as one of the world\u2019s soccer super powers, the English <\/strong>have been cursed by their inability to live up to their reputation. This year could bring big changes. They have a solid squad starting with their defense, and posses a world-class offense that includes players such as Gerrard, Lampard, and Rooney.<\/p>\n The Three Lions have reached the quarterfinals several times in the recent decade, and it would no surprise if they went on a run in 2010 and won it all.<\/p>\n France<\/strong> was probably the best team at World Cup in 2006, and was unlucky to lose to Italy in the final by penalty kicks. Les Bleus have a plethora of talent with Gallas, Ribery, and Thierry Henry. If Ribery, and Henry work well together and are on form, this could be the team to beat.<\/p>\n Next-door neighbors Germany<\/strong> often perform their best\u00a0when it matters most. While this year\u2019s squad is not the most talented, they are surely a team known for their resolve and determination. The Germans are\u00a0 experienced and have had some international success over the last few years. Although they will be without captain Michael Ballack, the squad is stacked with the likes of Podolski, Schweinstager, and keeper Hans-Joerg Butt. They will be a lock to advance to the second round and from there will battle well with anyone that they meet. The Italians <\/strong>are the current World Cup\u00a0holders so there will be additional pressure on the Azzurri to perform to expectations after an uninspiring qualifying campaign. After a brutal showing at Confederations Cup 2009, Italy have had some time to resolve their shortcomings in an effort to turn things around. Boss Marcello Lippi made several roster surprises, opting for youth over experience. <\/p>\n Can this squad of youngsters lead the Italians to back-to-back titles?\u00a0 Led by Fabio Cannavaro, the Italians will not give up their crown easily.<\/p>\n The Dutch <\/strong>may have one of the best chances. As usual they are stacked with great talent and will most likely show up on fire in South Africa. <\/p>\n Like Spain, fans will be wondering if they will finish the tournament at the same level as the start. <\/p>\n With Robben, van der Vaart, van Persie, Kuyt, and Inter\u2019s Wesley Sneijder. The Oranje will match any team on technique and talent. Their exciting style of ball movement and possession football is always fun to watch. If their World Cup qualifying form is indicative of things to come, they should make a deep run. <\/p>\n Rounding out the best of Europe is Portugal<\/strong>. The squad is a great mixture of youth and veterans as well as international talent.<\/p>\n Seventeen players are plying their trade in Europe, four in Major League Soccer and two at the Mexican club level.<\/p>\n A handful of their players easily could make the Best XI of a World Cup to include Landon Donovan, Jozy Altidore, Tim Howard,<\/strong> and Michael Bradley. The strength of the team is its defense, work rate, and athleticism.
