No point beating around the bush: the Phillies and Brewers are both trotting out their bottom-of-the-barrel hurlers on Sunday night. We can only assume it\u2019ll be an adventure for Kyle Kendrick and Doug Davis.<\/p>\n Kyle Kendrick (1-1, 5.89) Think the Phillies miss Pedro Martinez? Kyle Kendrick hasn\u2019t exactly been an adequate replacement so far. He\u2019s won just one of his seven starts, walking 14 batters and allowing six homers over 36.2 innings. However, there are some numbers suggesting he could survive his trip to Miller Park on Sunday night. First off, he\u2019s been decent in his previous trips to Milwaukee, amassing a 3.27 ERA and keeping the ball in the park. A big reason why is that he\u2019s far more effective against righties (1.15 career WHIP) than lefties (1.82 WHIP). Most of the Brewers\u2019 top power bats \u2013 Ryan Braun, Rickie Weeks, Casey McGehee, Corey Hart \u2013 bat from the right side.<\/p>\n Kendrick\u2019s biggest threat is definitely Prince Fielder but Prince hasn\u2019t heated up yet; he\u2019s popped only four homers in 34 games.<\/p>\n The prognosis isn\u2019t as promising for Doug Davis. A shadow of his former self, Davis still racks up strikeouts but he walks guys like crazy and he hasn\u2019t done a great job keeping the ball in the park.<\/p>\n He\u2019s tougher on lefties but the Phillies\u2019 talent often overcomes matchups; Ryan Howard bats .375 off Davis in his career with a pair of homers in eight at-bats. Also, red-hot Jayson Werth is a .556 hitter against Davis all-time.<\/p>\n It\u2019s safe to say both pitchers will take their lumps Sunday night, but the matchup seems to favor Kendrick. Sure, the Brewers will probably sprinkle lefties into their lineup, like Jim Edmonds, but it probably won\u2019t be enough.
