The Kobe Bryant-LeBron James Guaranteed NBA Finals are in shambles, courtesy of the Boston Celtics, who apparently have been lying in the reeds for the entire regular season and are now ready to completely destroy any and all assumptions we had about the playoffs.<\/p>\n What\u2019s certain is that the Cavaliers and James are in ruins by Lake Erie and sometime Saturday the Celtics will board a plane and head for Orlando and Sunday\u2019s Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Magic in what should be a fascinating series featuring superstars, loads of 3-point shooters, the best defensive big man the NBA has seen since Bill Russell, and TV shots of Boston\u2019s Charles River.<\/p>\n There will also be sideline scenes of Stan Van Gundy, but you have to take the good with the bad.<\/p>\n Anyway, this has the makings of a great series as Orlando finally runs up against an opponent which won\u2019t crawl into the fetal position as soon as real bullets start flying. Charlotte was able to hang in for a while and Atlanta tried to be the first team to play basketball without a spine, but in the end both were taken out in 4.<\/p>\n The Celtics are another story. <\/p>\n They have veterans who don\u2019t fold when things don\u2019t go right, they are as good as it gets on the road, they are finally healthy after a season-long battle with one injury after another, and they have a point guard who has become nearly impossible to handle. Rajon Rondo opened eyes coast to coast when he torched the Cavs for 29 points, 18 rebounds and 13 assists in Boston\u2019s Game 4 victory, and in the process completely disrupted Cleveland\u2019s defensive rotations. The Cavs never recovered from that and wound up losing Games 4, 5 and 6 by a total of 51 points.<\/p>\n Last season Orlando took out the Celtics in 7 in the Eastern semifinals, taking advantage of a Celtics team that was without injured defensive force Kevin Garnett and exhausted by a 7-game opening round series against the Bulls in which four of the seven games went into overtime. By the time Game 7 vs. Orlando came around, the Celts were running on fumes.<\/p>\n Garnett is now back and motivated, though two years older and maybe just 85 percent of the Garnett that led the Celtics to their 17th championship two years ago. That moves Glen Davis, who hurt Orlando as a starter in the playoffs last season, to the bench. Other than that, the Celtics cast is pretty much the same, though Ray Allen and Paul Pierce don\u2019t come off screens as quickly as they used to.<\/p>\n Orlando rolled the dice with Vince Carter and it paid off. Carter and back-from-injury Jameer Nelson are a huge upgrade over last year\u2019s playoff backcourt of Courtney Lee and Rafer Alston.<\/p>\n Then there is the Dwight Howard Factor. After limiting the damage done by Dwyane Wade and James in Rounds 1 and 2, Boston has to figure out how to defend and attack Howard. Howard points out that Boston Kendrick Perkins, who has both the size and mobility of an F-250, plays him as tough as anyone in the NBA.<\/p>\n Celtics vs. Magic Prediction: <\/strong><\/p>\n We may have seen the last of the blowouts, although the rested Magic have a huge edge in Game 1 and could make things nasty for the Celtics who have a short rest and a long plane ride ahead of them.
