MLB Power Rankings (as of 11\/05\/2010)<\/h2>\n

The prevailing trend in this week\u2019s power rankings: the surprise teams aren\u2019t faltering and the disappointing teams aren\u2019t rebounding. But it\u2019s still early.<\/p>\n

(Last week\u2019s rankings in brackets; team records are through Monday, May 10)<\/p>\n

1. (2) New York Yankees (21-10): <\/strong>It was only a matter of time before Mark Teixeira awoke from his slumber. Alex Rodriguez seems to have aged over the summer, though.<\/p>\n

2. (6) Philadelphia Phillies (20-12): <\/strong>Carlos Ruiz has been a nice surprise. Scary too that Ryan Howard hasn\u2019t even really gotten going yet.<\/p>\n

3. (1) Tampa Bay Rays (22-10): <\/strong>Don\u2019t worry about the slight slide in the rankings. Consensus around baseball is that they\u2019ll hold off Boston all season.<\/p>\n

4. (3) Minnesota Twins (21-11): <\/strong>Could they improve on last season? The bats remain solid plus Carl Pavano and Francisco Liriano have done wonders for the pitching staff.<\/p>\n

5. (4) St. Louis Cardinals (20-12): <\/strong>As if they weren\u2019t dominating the NL Central enough, David Freese and Colby Rasmus are joining the offensive party in a big way.<\/p>\n

6. (5) San Francisco Giants (18-12): <\/strong>it\u2019s not something you see mid-season in the majors anymore \u2013 but I can\u2019t help but think it would boost the Giants a ton if they traded a starting pitcher for offensive help.<\/p>\n

7. (16) Texas Rangers (18-14): <\/strong>You have to credit them for giving C.J. Wilson and Colby Lewis shots in the starting rotation; it\u2019s worked miracles.<\/p>\n

8. (8) San Diego Padres (19-12): <\/strong>One person on the team hitting above .267? That has to change if the Padres want to keep up this smoke and mirrors routine.<\/p>\n

9. (9) Toronto Blue Jays (19-15): <\/strong>It\u2019s funny to see some of J.P. Ricciardi\u2019s work (Ricky Romero, Brett Cecil) paying off after he\u2019s long gone from Toronto\u2019s front office.<\/p>\n

10. (11) Detroit Tigers (18-14): <\/strong>The Max Scherzer experiment is crashing and burning. That makes me skeptical that Detroit has the pitching to remain a contender. <\/strong><\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

11. (7) New York Mets (17-15): <\/strong>Regressing as expected. Jason Bay and Jose Reyes will get better, yeah, but Mike Pelfrey will get worse.<\/p>\n

12. (12) Washington Nationals (18-14): <\/strong>Four games over .500! I love it! Craziest stat of the year is reliever Tyler Clippard tying Roy Halladay and Ubaldo Jimenez for the major-league wins lead with six.<\/p>\n

13. (10) Boston Red Sox (17-16): <\/strong>Some more consistency from their starting rotation \u2013 which was supposed to be the American League\u2019s best \u2013 would go a long way.<\/p>\n

14. (14) Cincinnati Reds (17-15): <\/strong>Watching Joey Votto pull the Reds out of a hole with a clutch three-run blast on Sunday made me realize something: the wait is over. This guy is an MVP candidate\u00a0now<\/em>.<\/p>\n

15. (14) Oakland Athletics (17-15): <\/strong>I\u2019m guessing Dallas Braden\u2019s perfect game was Oakland\u2019s peak. Expect a downhill slide from now on.<\/p>\n

16. (20) Los Angeles Angels (15-19): <\/strong>Finally stopped the bleeding with a few wins, but it seems the scab rips open every time Scott Kazmir takes the mound.<\/p>\n

17. (25) Los Angeles Dodgers (15-17): <\/strong>If nothing else, they have the best hitter in baseball so far this season in Andre Ethier. He\u2019ll cool off \u2013 but not too much. He\u2019s the real deal.<\/p>\n

18. (24) Atlanta Braves (14-18): <\/strong>Wasn\u2019t pitching supposed to be their strong suit? Hanson and Hudson are delivering but Lowe has been atrocious and Jurrjens isn\u2019t close to returning from the DL.<\/p>\n

19. (22) Milwaukee Brewers (15-17): <\/strong>Are they unlucky? They\u2019ve had plenty of good performances in the lineup and the rotation. Take away the team\u2019s seven blown saves and the Brew Crew could be 22-10.<\/p>\n

20. (15) Colorado Rockies (15-17): <\/strong>Ubaldo Jimenez\u2019s ERA: 0.93. The next best on the team among qualifiers: Aaron Cook at 6.03. They need Jorge De La Rosa back soon.<\/p>\n

21. (19) Florida Marlins (15-17)<\/strong>
