MLB Power Rankings (as of 6\/05\/2010)<\/h2>\n

Isn\u2019t the cream supposed to rise to the top? We\u2019re seeing it with some of the preseason MLB contenders, but other supposed powerhouses continue to struggle.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the theme in another confusing addition of the power rankings.<\/p>\n

1. (1) Tampa Bay Rays (20-7): <\/strong>No signs of slowing down. The bats were always projected to excel but it\u2019s especially exciting to see young throwers like Wade Davis living up to their potential.<\/p>\n

2. (2) New York Yankees (19-8): <\/strong>Keeping pace with the Rays even though A-Rod hasn\u2019t really gotten going yet. Joba Chamberlain has been a revelation in the pen.<\/p>\n

3. (5) Minnesota Twins (19-9): <\/strong>Still winning even with Joe Mauer on the shelf. This is no one-man team.<\/p>\n

4. (3) St. Louis Cardinals (18-10): <\/strong>As if they needed another dominant hurler, rookie Jaime Garcia has been a monster so far.<\/p>\n

5. (10) San Francisco Giants (16-10): <\/strong>Barry Zito is back! But that still doesn\u2019t solve the hitting woes. I don\u2019t see them rising much higher than fifth in these rankings.<\/p>\n

6. (8) Philadelphia Phillies (16-11): <\/strong>They\u2019ve been a bit underwhelming but, let\u2019s remember, they\u2019re doing it without their top table setter Jimmy Rollins.<\/p>\n

7. (4) New York Mets (15-13): <\/strong>Coming back to Earth slightly. I\u2019m still not a believer. They struggle to hit and I\u2019m not convinced they\u2019ll get more than one above-average season from their starting rotation.<\/p>\n

8. (6) San Diego Padres (17-11): <\/strong>Chase Headley is eight for eight in stolen base attempts. That tells you everything you need to know about San Diego\u2019s prospects of maintaining their current pace.<\/p>\n

9. (19) Toronto Blue Jays (16-13): <\/strong>So they beat up on Oakland and Cleveland. Let\u2019s not get all hot and bothered just yet.<\/p>\n

10. (9) Boston Red Sox (14-14): <\/strong>They\u2019re hot, they\u2019re not, they\u2019re hot again. Still tough to know how their season will turn out but at least Jon Lester is back on track. \"\"<\/p>\n

11. (7) Detroit Tigers (16-13): <\/strong>Weren\u2019t the Yankees supposed to get the short-term return in the Granderson deal? Austin Jackson is making the Tigers forget about him very quickly.<\/p>\n

12. (17) Washington Nationals (14-13): <\/strong>I\u2019m starting to feel confident that they won\u2019t finish 2010 as baseball\u2019s worst team.<\/p>\n

13. (11) Cincinnati Reds (14-14): <\/strong>Second in the Central is right on line with my prediction \u2013 but so is the wide gap between them and the first-place Cardinals.<\/p>\n

14. (16) Oakland Athletics (15-14): <\/strong>I look up and down the roster and still can\u2019t figure out where the wins are coming from. Dallas Braden? Ryan Sweeney? Yuck.<\/p>\n

15. (14) Colorado Rockies (14-14): <\/strong>Make that 6-0 for the Colorado Jimenezes.<\/p>\n

16. (22) Texas Rangers (14-14): <\/strong>Could have the division lead by next week with Ian Kinsler back and Nelson Cruz about to return from the DL.<\/p>\n

17. (13) Arizona Diamondbacks (13-15): <\/strong>Now that the luster is starting to wear off Kelly Johnson, it\u2019s time for the true stars to step up. That means you, Justin Upton.<\/p>\n

18. (24) Chicago White Sox (12-16): <\/strong>Very quietly seven games back in the division already. Is Ozzie Guillen\u2019s job safe?<\/p>\n

19. (18) Florida Marlins (13-14): <\/strong>Based on their hitters\u2019 and starters\u2019 stats, I can\u2019t help but think their record should be better.<\/p>\n

20. (12) Los Angeles Angels (12-17): <\/strong>The big tumbler of the week. Batting .254 after hitting a major-league best .285 as a team last year.<\/p>\n

21. (21) Pittsburgh Pirates (12-15)<\/strong>
\n22. (25) Milwaukee Brewers (12-15)<\/strong>
\n23. (23) Chicago Cubs (13-15)<\/strong>
\n24. (27) Atlanta Braves (12-15)<\/strong>
\n25. (20) Los Angeles Dodgers (11-16)<\/strong>
\n26. (15) Seattle Mariners (11-16)<\/strong>
\n27. (29) Kansas City Royals (11-17)<\/strong>
\n28. (26) Cleveland Indians (10-17)<\/strong>
\n29. (28) Houston Astros (9-18)<\/strong>
\n30. (30) Baltimore Orioles (7-21)<\/strong><\/p>\n
