Few believed Denmark could reach the World Cup when the qualifying groups were announced three years ago, but the Danes cruised past Sweden, Portugal and Hungary to earn an automatic berth to South Africa this summer. <\/p>\n Danish born boss Morten Olsen, who took the helm in 2000, has piloted the Danes to the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA EURO 2004, but has yet to get the side past the round of 16. <\/p>\n The 60-year old plied a solid career that spanned 19 years retiring at 40 to begin a coaching career, including spells with FC Koln and Ajax. <\/p>\n The Danes, who are known for their stingy defense, will be led by Liverpool defender Daniel Agger and Simon Kjaar. <\/p>\n The two formed a brilliant relationship during qualification and worked together well. Agger is known for his ball handling and tough tackling while Kjaar anticipates well and is known for strength and quick feet. Thomas Sorenson, who was the goalie for Denmark in the 2002 World Cup Finals when the side reached the quarterfinals, will once again be between the pipes. <\/p>\n Denmark\u2019s attack will be led by a trio of midfielders, Daniel Jensen (Bremen), Christan Poulsen (Juventus) and Dennis Rommedahl (Ajax), along with national captain, striker Jon Dahl Tomasson. <\/p>\n Denmark was a shocker to qualify for the World Cup beating Portugal, who was ranked 5th in the world, and Sweden to advance out of their group with just one defeat in ten matches. <\/p>\n The Danes Cinderella campaign included a 3-2 win and 1-1 draw with Portugal followed by a victory over bitter rivals and close neighbors Sweden at home and away by a one-goal difference on both occasions.
