MLB Power Rankings (as of 30\/04\/2010)<\/h2>\n

Is it 2008? The Tampa Bay Rays sure think so. They\u2019ll lead off this week\u2019s power rankings, which have seen some major moves since we last checked in.<\/p>\n

1. (3) Tampa Bay Rays (17-5): <\/strong>Everything is clicking, just like it did two years ago, and there\u2019s no end in sight for the hot streak. Looks like 2009 was the anomaly, not 2008.<\/p>\n

2. (1) New York Yankees (14-7): <\/strong>Imagine where they\u2019d be if Javier Vazquez wasn\u2019t losing games for them? Seems like Brian Cashman was the only guy who didn\u2019t see his flop coming.<\/p>\n

3. (6) St. Louis Cardinals (15-7): <\/strong>Nothing\u2019s really changed from last year\u2019s division champion roster aside from swapping Brad penny into the Joel Pineiro role. So we can\u2019t be too surprised.<\/p>\n

4. (24) New York Mets (13-9): <\/strong>The Miracle Mets are back! Hard to say if it can last. A lot depends on whether or not pleasant surprises like Mike Pelfrey can keep up the good work. I\u2019m still skeptical.<\/p>\n

5. (2) Minnesota Twins (14-8): <\/strong>Did nothing to warrant a slide in the rankings but the teams above them are just piping hot. How about Francisco Liriano\u2019s resurgence?<\/p>\n

6. (13) San Diego Padres (14-8): <\/strong>Still early enough in the season that we should give credit where credit is due. As long as they keep winning, it looks like Adrian Gonzalez is staying put.<\/p>\n

7. (14) Detroit Tigers (13-10): <\/strong>All of a sudden they can hit again. I really don\u2019t know what to make of the Tigers this year.<\/p>\n

8. (5) Philadelphia Phillies (12-9): <\/strong>Their powerhouse season isn\u2019t going to work if Cole Hamels doesn\u2019t at least come close to Roy Halladay\u2019s production level.<\/p>\n

9. (15) Boston Red Sox (11-11): <\/strong>It was only a matter of time before their funk ended. But Beantown still has to be worried about Tampa stealing its playoff spot.<\/p>\n

10. (8) San Francisco Giants (12-9): <\/strong>Should hover around this spot al year. We know what we get with this all-pitching, no-hitting group.<\/p>\n

11. (20) Cincinnati Reds (11-11): <\/strong>Don\u2019t be so sure their recent surge is a fluke. Plenty of power on the roster, rookie Mike Leake is ahead of schedule and Aroldis Chapman is ripping it up in the minors. \"\"<\/p>\n

12. (4) Los Angeles Angels (12-11): <\/strong>Staying put in the standings but something is missing from this team. The starting pitching is supposed to be better.<\/p>\n

13. (22) Arizona Diamondbacks (11-11): <\/strong>Holy cow, Kelly Johnson! He and Adam LaRoche look like baseball\u2019s biggest offseason acquisitions not named Roy Halladay.<\/p>\n

14. (12) Colorado Rockies (11-11): <\/strong>Holding strong around .500 but do the math: Ubaldo Jimenez is 5-0, so the Rockies\u2019 record without him is…<\/p>\n

15. (16) Seattle Mariners (11-11): <\/strong>They may not have to be perfect to win the suddenly mediocre AL West but Cliff Lee\u2019s return will still be extremely welcome.<\/p>\n

16. (9) Oakland Athletics (12-11): <\/strong>Losing Kurt Suzuki and Brett Anderson should squash their mini-streak quickly.<\/p>\n

17. (19) Washington Nationals (12-10): <\/strong>How cool would it be if the Nats were over .500 when Stephen Strasburg arrived?<\/p>\n

18. (10) Florida Marlins (11-11): <\/strong>Josh Johnson is back on track and the Mike Stanton countdown has begun.<\/p>\n

19. (11) Toronto Blue Jays (11-12): <\/strong>It wouldn\u2019t surprise me at all if they never ranked even this high in the rankings again this season.<\/p>\n

20. (18) Los Angeles Dodgers (8-14): <\/strong>I\u2019m patting myself on the back for this prediction. No starting pitching depth, no division title this year. Someone tell Ned Colletti that Matt Kemp ain\u2019t the problem.<\/p>\n

21. (17) Pittsburgh Pirates (10-12): <\/strong>Would\u2019ve been lower but a little winning streak kept them afloat. Evan Meek could be the real deal in the ninth inning.<\/p>\n
