Shields also struck out five and walked three along the way, and he\u2019ll be facing a Red Sox team that has given him problems in the past. <\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old righthander is 3-7 in 12 career starts against the Red Sox with a 5.32 ERA, and Boston is hitting .270 off him, along with 10 homers.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Sox will counter with Clay Buchholz (1-0, 3.60), who they\u2019ll need to make the jump to the next level if they want to challenge the Yankees\u2019\u00a0<a title=\"MLB betting \" href=\"http:\/\/www.betonline.com\/sports-betting\/baseball\/mlb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">MLB betting<\/a> odds in the East. The Rays have dropped seven of their last 10 in Boston, including four in a row, and it doesn\u2019t help that Shields is absolutely dreadful at Fenway Park, losing all six of his career starts in front of the \u201cGreen Monster\u201d, and he has an 8.04 ERA there. <\/p>\n<p>The Red Sox are taking a minute to get going this year, and they simply need their pitching to be better as Boston has a staff ERA of 4.65, although Tampa isn\u2019t much better at 4.56.
