The Boston Bruins are somehow hanging around and are still occupying an Eastern Conference playoff spot. <\/p>\n

They play host to a Florida team that was out of the playoff race before there was even a playoff race to speak of. Still, this is an important game, for one team at least. <\/p>\n

The Florida Panthers appear to have officially given up on the season. They are 3-5-2 in their last 10 games including four straight losses. <\/p>\n

Wednesday night\u2019s loss was a new low for the Panthers, a 6-2 drubbing at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres in a game that they were only able to generate 15 shots on goal. <\/p>\n

Why are the Panthers struggling to be competitive these days? Take a look at the Florida roster. It is riddled with no name talent that has only two players with over 50 points. Total up the points of Stephen Weiss and Nathan Horton (Florida\u2019s top two scorers) and it equals five more points than Henrik Sedin has himself! <\/p>\n

That is why Florida is at the bottom of the NHL standings \u2013 they just aren\u2019t that good. <\/p>\n

Goaltender Thomas Vokoun is OK but if he is struggling (like he is now); the team has no chance for success. Add in the concussion issue that has sidelined David booth for the season and the Panthers are a disaster. <\/p>\n

The Boston Bruins have to be considering themselves lucky to be the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference with the way that they have played lately. <\/p>\n

They are 5-5 in their last 10 games and if it were not for some overtime heroics of Patrice Bergeron, the Bruins could be in a slightly more precarious position. \"Sports<\/p>\n

As it stands right now, the Bruins could realistically finish as high as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference or they could slip to tenth and finish out of the playoffs. <\/p>\n

Boston will undoubtedly turn to Tukka Rask to mind the net in their Thursday match. He still leads the league in goals against average and is the sole reason that a team with the 30th ranked offense in the NHL is still competing for a playoff spot. <\/p>\n

Boston has to get on a streak now! They scare nobody, particularly on home ice where they are a pathetic 3-13 in their last 16 games. Florida is 6-2 in their last 8 trips to Boston and the road team is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings between the two clubs. Boston is bad right now, but I\u2019m afraid that Florida is worse.<\/p>\n
