Something that I didn\u2019t think that I would be saying again this season \u2013 the Atlanta Thrashers will play a game on Tuesday night that has some major playoff implications. They play host to the Boston Bruins whom they trail by only one point for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Both teams have done nothing over their past ten games to prove that they belong in the post season but one team has put on quite a run just to enter the playoff conversation. <\/p>\n

The Boston Bruins have been playing ho-hum hockey since the Olympic break. Those of you that thought that the Bruins exorcized all of their demons in January with their eleven game losing streak were wrong \u2013 they have not fully recovered yet from that streak. <\/p>\n

Boston has owned the worst offense in the NHL for almost the entire season and their goal scoring troubles does not seem to be going away. They can thank Tukka Rask and his league leading goals against average for their current playoff position. Boston has only one twenty goal scorer on the roster and has only one player with more than 40 points. They are a low scoring club and if they win, it is in games like the one we saw on Sunday, a 3-1 win over the sliding New York Rangers. <\/p>\n

The Atlanta Thrashers were a team left on the curb for the garbage man to pick up, but thanks to four straight wins and a goal scoring barrage, they have a few Eastern Conference teams looking over their shoulders. They have been playing an exciting brand of hockey that has given their fans something to look forward to and has allowed the Atlanta faithful to forget about some guy named Ilya Kovalchuk. \"Sports<\/p>\n

Nik Antropov, Maxim Afinogenov and Colby Armstrong have been producing for the league\u2019s ninth ranked offense while Johan Hedberg and Ondrej Pavelec have suddenly formed a formidable goaltending duo. Look out folks, the Thrashers are suddenly a decent team! <\/p>\n

Atlanta currently sits one point back of the Bruins but has played one more game than Boston. Boston has owned the Thrashes lately going 10-1 in their last 11 games, but the home team is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. I think that Atlanta gets it done on Tuesday night and holds down the final Eastern Conference playoff spot for one game at least. <\/p>\n
