Their only hope of making it to the NCAA\u2019s would be to win the Conference USA Tournament, a tall task to say the least considering they would have to win four games in four days to do so. <\/p>\n After dramatic upsets over Memphis (66-65) and Southern Miss (74-66) they saved their best for last pulling off the biggest shocker of them all; an 81-73 win over #1 seed UTEP in the finals to truly earn their ticket to the dance. <\/p>\n Led by senior G Aubrey Coleman, who is averaging 25.6 points and 7.4 rebounds the Cougars will need to carry the momentum from the past few games into their first round match up against a much better team.<\/p>\n Maryland (23-8) was never even close to being ranked as high as Duke in the polls this year, but they battled them tooth and nail all season long to gain a share of the ACC regular season title with a conference record of 13-3. They put an exclamation point of this accomplishment by beating the #3 ranked Blue Devils 79-72 towards the end of the regular season. <\/p>\n They need to recapture that energy heading into this tournament after losing to Georgia Tech 69-64 in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. With ACC Player of the Year senior G Greivis Vasquez leading the way, the Terrapins have a good chance to go fairly deep within the Midwest region. He is averaging 19.6 points and 4.6 rebounds and has single handedly led his team to victory more than once this season. Another player that can do some damage is senior F Landon Milbourne, who is averaging 12.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. All in all, this team has four starters that are averaging in double digits and have the ability to put some points on the board.<\/p>\n Houston\u2019s run to the NCAA\u2019s is what makes this tournament such a great event. It just shows that if a team can get hot at the right time anything is possible. Unfortunately these kinds of runs also get you a very low seed and a difficult match up in the first round.
