Louisville visits Marquette this evening as both teams look to improve their March Madness positioning.<\/p>\n

The last time these two teams met was early March of last year. Louisville prevailed 62-58 (ATS loss -8.5).<\/p>\n

Louisville is a mystery this year as evidenced by their spotty play and brutal ATS record. You just can’t predict how they will perform. They lose by almost 20 at St. Johns then beat Syracuse on the road the very same week. They are trying to make a push for the tournament and this game is critical as it will get them to 20 victories while weakening another at large team’s chances. Lately the Cardinals have been keying of the play of senior guard Edgar Sosa. Against St. Johns he had no points and 5 turnovers while in the win at Syracuse he has 12 points and only 2 T0s. This team is just not as fundamentally sound as coach Rick Pitino would like and they need steady guard play to beat quality teams. <\/p>\n

This team has talent – Samardo Samuels – but isn’t loaded like last year. <\/p>\n

After UNC I am not sure there is a team that lost more than Marquette.

\nThree starting guards that took all of their big shots for the last four years. They may not all have been NBA calibre but in a tough league like the Big East they were huge. Yet here are the Golden Eagles at 19-9 hovering on the cut line for the tournament. They are doing it by taking a bunch of threes and making them – 7th in the nation at 40%. <\/p>\n

That and Lazar Hayward continues to improve. He might be a bit of a tweener for NBA purposes but he is one of the most consistent players in the country. <\/p>\n

This team is very small but this has not been exploited often. They held Greg Monroe of Georgetown to only 9 points earlier in the season so I am sure they have a gameplan for Samuels.<\/p>\n
