While acquiring Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman, Ian White and Jamal Mayers won\u2019t have the effect of, say, reeling in Ilya Kovalchuk, it will have at least some impact.

\nGiven the Flames\u2019 recent play, a visit from the rough, tough Philadelphia Flyers normally wouldn\u2019t bode well. But there\u2019s something about the effect of infusing new blood into a team; it\u2019s similar to the uncanny way expansion franchises so often win their home openers in sports. There\u2019s just a special energy in the air. In the end, the Flames will likely regret trading Dion Phaneuf. But the Leaf trade should pay short-term dividends starting tonight. Stajan will likely get a shot to center Jarome Iginla and Hagman will almost certainly wind up alongside countryman Olli Jokinen. I\u2019d bet on the Flames to play with extra energy tonight and topple the Flyers.<\/p>\n
