CLICK HERE TO VIEW OUR TOP COLLEGE BASKETBALL HANDICAPPERS —–><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n (best matchup featuring a top 5 team)<\/p>\n Saturday January 9, 1:30 PM<\/strong> Last game for Purdue: <\/strong> 79-60 win over Minnesota (ATS win -8.5) The Big Ten may not get the love of the other major conferences but when their top teams tangle it is definitely worth checking out.\u00a0 For Purdue, they are undefeated having proved their lofty ranking with a very impressive win over then unbeaten West Virginia on New Year’s day.\u00a0 Meanwhile Wisconsin is doing it again.\u00a0 Nobody is intimidated by them but they always compete hard and win games nobody thinks they should like spanking Duke earlier this year.\u00a0 Can they spoil the Boilermakers perfect start.\u00a0 We will see.<\/p>\n Of all the top teams I have seen this year Purdue has been the most impressive. \u00a0They have amazing balance, scoring both inside and out, good size, and a great defensive disruptor in Chris Kramer. \u00a0The trio of Hummel, Johnson and Moore have been fantastic making this team difficult to guard as anyone of them can be the leading scorer in a given contest. \u00a0Having escaped the non-conference schedule unbeaten they could really be in for a special season. \u00a0With the exception of a visit to Michigan State they should be favoured in all their remaining games.<\/p>\n Wisconsin enters the contest with a better than expected 12-3 record but off a loss to Michigan State. \u00a0They are getting amazing production from forward Jon Leuer who has almost doubled his scoring and rebounding from last season. \u00a0Also, don’t overlook Trevon Hughes who continues to improve and is showing the impact a senior can have as an on-court leader. \u00a0Hughes will be challenged by Kramer and Leuer will have all he can handle with JaJuan Johnson. \u00a0Wisconsin’s challenge will be matching the talent of the Boilermakers but with their system and their experience and the fact that they are at home this game will do down to the wire.<\/p>\n Score Prediction:\u00a0Purdue – 71 vs. Wisconsin \u00a0– 67<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Pick: <\/strong>I respect the Badgers but I don’t know how you can make them the favourite against an undefeated Purdue to team.\u00a0 This one will be close as Wisconsin is good at dictating pace in their own gym but in the end the Trio of Moore, Hummel and Johnson will be too much.\u00a0 You have to play Purdue with the points and if you want a kicker go for the SU victory.<\/p>\n ————————————————–<\/p>\n Saturday January 9, 4:00 PM<\/strong> Last Game for UNLV: <\/strong>77-73 loss at BYU (ATS win +7.5) New Mexico is one of the nice surprise teams so far. \u00a0They are sitting at 14-2 but are coming off a road loss to kickoff MWC play. \u00a0UNLV roared out of the gate and was in the rankings a few weeks ago but back to back losses have knocked them down a peg and they are going to have to play well in conference if they want an at large bid. \u00a0When the Lobos and the Rebels tussle it is usually a close game, 4 of the last 6 have been decided by 4 points or less including 2 that went into overtime. \u00a0Both teams are trying to establish themselves as number 2 in conference after BYU and this game will count for a lot.<\/p>\n There is no shame losing at BYU. \u00a0The Rebels were in the game and proved they should be among the top teams in the conference. \u00a0Trevon Willis has a great game scoring 24 but no other player cracked double digits and on nights when he is off his game this team can really struggle. They need Kentucky transfer Derrick Jasper to step up. \u00a0He was pretty highly touted as a recruit but is averaging only 7.5 points per game and was held to 4, 3, and 0 points in their losses. \u00a0Winning this game on the road will not be easy but with better balance the Rebels have a chance.<\/p>\n New Mexico’s 14-2 record in legit. \u00a0They have beaten a bunch of teams who will likely make the tourney headlined by a victory over Cal. \u00a0The opposite of UNLV they are getting great balance with 4 players in double figures scoring and 3 averaging more than 5 boards a game. \u00a0Now that they are playing more familiar conference opponents it will be interesting to see how the Lobos continue to play. Score Prediction:\u00a0New Mexico – 77 vs. UNLV – 70<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Pick: <\/strong> New Mexico is a solid ML play at home but the spread seems about right.\u00a0 It is still early in the season making it tough to gauge just how good the Lobo’s are.\u00a0 I want to check these guys out some more so I will take a pass.<\/p>\n ————————————————–<\/p>\n Saturday January 9, 12:00PM<\/strong> Last game for Connecticut: <\/strong>71-63 victory over Seton Hall (ATS win -6.5) Matchup History: <\/strong>Georgetown has won the last three (2-1 ATS)<\/p>\n UConn is not nearly as fearsome as they have been the last couple of years with Hasheem Thabeet in the middle but they are still firmly a top 25 team with plenty of talent to challenge anyone in the Big East.\u00a0 Georgetown has rebounded nicely from last year’s disappointments they are coming off a tough road loss and should be happy to be home.\u00a0 The Hoyas and Huskies tip off a very solid weekend switching from pigskin to roundball.<\/p>\n Despite the loss of Thabeet the Huskies still have plenty of size to push around any opponent.\u00a0 They are going to need all of it to stifle Greg Monroe, a smooth big for the Hoyas.\u00a0 Stanley Robinson made the right decision to stay in school, his numbers are way up.\u00a0 So are the numbers for the sweet shooting Jerome Dyson, if he had been healthy at the end of the last year who knows how far the Huskies might have gone.\u00a0 The Huskies are a very complete team but do not have the depth they have had in the past.\u00a0 When the starters are on the floor they can hang with anybody.<\/p>\n Georgetown is playing much better than last year but their two losses are puzzling.\u00a0 No shame in losing at Marquette but losing at home to Old Dominion is a head scratcher.\u00a0 Greg Monroe is sensational but he needs to assert himself with more consistency.\u00a0 He should be at 20\/10 not 14\/9 guy.\u00a0 The rest of the cast is much improved especially Austin Freeman whose numbers sagged after a promising freshman season.\u00a0 Chris Wright will need to protect the rock better to handle the pressure that UConn will bring.\u00a0 If he can neutralize Kemba Walker that will be a huge plus for the Hoyas.<\/p>\n Score Prediction:\u00a0Connecticut – 71 vs. Georgetown – 70<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Pick: <\/strong> Loving the Huskies to pull the upset on the road.\u00a0 UConn’s bigs can bang with Monroe and challenge him to respond.\u00a0 I expect him to play well but it won’t be easy and he will have to watch his fouls.\u00a0 Hoyas will have a chance at the buzzer but will fall just short.\u00a0 UConn is a great ATS play here and the spread might rise as tip approaches.<\/p>\n <\/strong> Previews of some great college basketball matchups for this weekend.
