Time<\/strong>: 1:00 ET Last week, the 49ers took advantage of six Cardinals turnovers and still barely won. Going up against a good Philadelphia Eagles squad is surely going to be a stiffer test.<\/p>\n 49ers offense versus Eagles defense <\/strong><\/p>\n The 49ers aren\u2019t really sure if Alex Smith is their quarterback of the future and they\u2019ll get a clearer indication in a game like this. While Smith still doesn\u2019t have a great offense around him, a lot of parts have emerged this year. Tight end Vernon Davis has been a nice weapon and wideout Michael Crabtree gets better with each game.<\/p>\n Interesting enough, the 49ers offense is more focused on passing the ball these days even though running back Frank Gore is the team\u2019s best weapon. Passing too much against a good Eagles secondary will not be the road to success this week.<\/p>\n The 49ers offense isn\u2019t one-dimensional, but the Eagles will probably make it that way this weekend. They\u2019ll key in on Gore and force Smith to beat them. It\u2019s unlikely that he can, but if he can, then the 49ers might have their answer for next year.<\/p>\n Eagles offense versus 49ers defense <\/strong><\/p>\n The Eagles offense is very explosive and they shouldn\u2019t have many problems connecting on some big plays this week. The 49ers pass defense is ranked 26th in the NFL, which is fairly disappointing considering they have 34 sacks on the year. They have given up 40 passing plays of 20 yards or longer, which indicates that there will be plenty of room for the Eagles to strike deep.<\/p>\n The Eagles have a very multifaceted offense and their West Cost, short passing game is going to keep the 49ers defense on the field longer than they would like. Then they\u2019ll strike deep with the big plays.<\/p>\n Outlook & Pick <\/strong><\/p>\n It\u2019s one thing for the 49ers to dominate at home in front of a national audience but it\u2019s a significantly different task for them to play just as well on the road. This is a warm-weather, West Coast team that is heading to the East Coast for an early start in frigid temperatures. While they looked really good last week, they\u2019ll look equally as bad in a flat performance this week.<\/p>\n Keep in mind that the 49ers are just 1-5 and while they have been competitive in their losses, they\u2019ll be flat in this one off a short week.<\/p>\n
