For the first time in a very long while, head coach Pete Carroll and the USC Trojans must go back to the drawing board. Southern Cal lost four in-conference games this season, which knocked them out of the Top 25 and put them in this humbling (by their standards) Boxing Day match-up against the Eagles.<\/p>\n

If Boston College’s defense plays its heart out, the Eagles might just have a chance to add to the Trojans’ misery. Freshman USC QB Matt Barkley has been prone to mistakes.

\nIf Boston College’s secondary can force Barkley into some errors\/pressure with good coverage, we could see a zany finish. Eagles freshman LB Luke Kuechly is among America’s leading tacklers and their rather ho-hum offense is sparked by the running of sophomore tailback Montel Harris.<\/p>\n

As with virtually all their games this season, the Trojans have the edge in talent. If the offense fires on all cylinders and USC plays like it can (read: a bashing of in-state rivals; 30-3 over California and 27-7 over UCLA) Barkley and Co. should emerge victorious. On offense, Joe McKnight, Damian Williams and Anthony McCoy present match-up problems, and on the other side of the ball if DE Everson Griffen gets round the edge, look out.<\/p>\n

Yet all season USC hasn’t been putting the stomping on teams it usually does, so it’s a bit of a wild card.<\/p>\n

If Barkley can manage the game (a reasonably big ‘if’) look for Southern Cal to take this one in its home state.<\/p>\n
