As has been customary lately, the Naval Academy looks like the stronger football outfit in this match-up. This season, Navy has the best record of the FBS Independents (tsk tsk, Notre Dame) and has been using its customary triple-option offense to rack up huge yards on the ground.

CLICK HERE FOR THE BEST CFB WEEK 15 GAMBLING PICKS FROM OUR TOP CAPPERS! —>

The offense certainly has a little more credibility after former coach Paul Johnson made the upgrade to Georgia Tech and proved it can be successful in the BCS conferences.

The attack funnels through QB Ricky Dobbs. While Dobbs has only attempted 84 throws all season, he’s put up 913 yards rushing. Fullback Vince Murray has buttressed the rushing attack with 884 on 159 carries; a healthy 5.6 yards a clip.

Though the Black Knights’ defense isn’t lousy, teams have trouble stopping Navy’s running game despite knowing exactly what they are going to get. Combine this with Army’s pitiful offense, and it seems clear that one set of cadets will be jubilant on the sidelines. They likely won’t be the Armed Forces.

To even have a chance, Army’s freshman QB Trent Steelman will have to play the game of his young career. His team probably won’t win the time of possession battle either, so he would have to be ruthlessly efficient through the air and on the ground to even have a sniff in this rivalry game.

Although Navy’s leading receiver only has nine grabs on the year, it doesn’t matter. Navy exercises a tried, tested and true formula and we no doubt will see another case study of it this Saturday in Philly.

2009 Team Stats

Total Offense: Army 116th
Navy 80th

Total Defense: Army 17th
Navy 44th

Trends:
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Army’s last 6 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Army’s last 6 games when playing Navy
Army is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games on the road
Army is 8-17 SU in its last 25 games
Navy is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing Army
Navy is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against Army
Navy is 7-1 ATS in its last 8 games when playing at home against Army
Navy is 6-1 ATS in its last 7 games when playing Army

Team records:
Army: 5-6 SU, 3-8 ATS
Navy: 8-4 SU, 4-6-2 ATS

Pick: Navy -17

We stand behind one of our top NFL Sportsbooks – MYSportsbook.com – Sign Up For A Free Account Today, and know that they have ONE OF THE Best CREDIT CARD ACCEPTANCE rates in the industry.

James has been naming every player on the EA Sports NCAA video game rosters for half a decade now, he’s finally putting his knowledge to better use writing for us here at CappersPicks.com.
