Despite scoring three touchdowns, Virginia had another frustrating day on offense against Clemson last Saturday. In 40 rushing attempts, they had just 141 yards, and that was before all the sacks of Jameel Sewell brought that figure down to 78 net yards.<\/p>\n

All season there have been problems facilitating a new spread offense that was installed, and Sewell, who was coming back after sitting out last year due to academic problems, hasn’t quite gotten the hang of it.<\/p>\n

Here are some of the NCAA college football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:<\/strong><\/p>\n

He has tossed seven TD passes and the same number of interceptions, and his 54% completion rate isn’t going to get it done. When you can’t protect the passer (39 sacks) and can’t run the football (ranked 112th in the country) you are going to have problems.<\/p>\n

In seven of their games, Virginia has scored 17 points or less, which makes things tough in the football betting odds, although they are 6-4 against the number.<\/p>\n

Virginia Tech’s Ryan Williams is one of the best freshmen running back in the country. Williams has rushed for 100 yards or more in eight of his team’s eleven games, and he scored four touchdowns in last week’s 38-10 win over North Carolina State.<\/p>\n

Virginia Tech’s rushing game (4.5 ypc) is in much better shape than it was last year, and part of the reason is that Tyrod Taylor has improved himself as a passer. Taylor has thrown just three interceptions this season, with nine yards per attempt.<\/p>\n

It looks like Al Groh may be out of a job in Charlottesville, and I’m not sure that this game is going to help him any. His quarterbacks are not going to get a lot of relief from a Hokies defense that has permitted only 46% completions. That defense has some momentum too, having allowed just 22 points in the last three games, and against a couple of offenses that are capable.<\/p>\n

Virginia Tech is a 68% road proposition over the last six seasons, and has covered four of the last five meetings. We’ll lay the points with the Hokies, the 16-point favorite in the BetUS NCAA football betting odds.<\/p>\n
