Week 6 Hot and Not<\/h2>\n

If you are in need of a HOT fantasy football player these Top Hot players<\/strong> for the week should help you out if they\u2019re in your lineup. They may also be free agents on your waiver wire<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you need to dump a lame duck on your team, these NOTS should be them. Throw em in the trash if you can afford to not have them on your bench. Fantasy Football<\/strong><\/a> always favors the prepared mind.<\/p>\n

The more research you do, and the more HOT players you have to choose from on your team, the better your odds are of winning your fantasy football league outright this year.<\/p>\n

There was defiantly a lot of Heat in Week 5 of the NFL.\u00a0 Quarterbacks and Wide Receivers absolutely lit it up this week – surprising considering that San Diego, New Orleans, Green Bay, and Chicago all had the week off.<\/p>\n

A ton of 300+ yard passers and a ridiculous amount of 2 TD games for wideouts makes this article easy to write.<\/p>\n

Excuse me if this article mirrors the Studs and Duds column that I wrote on Monday – the numbers dictate what I write.<\/p>\n

HOT<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

1. Peyton Manning – Indianapolis<\/strong> – I know that I sound like a broken record, but what the hell else am I going to do??\u00a0 Maybe write a separate \u201cScorching\u201d column for Manning.\u00a0 5 consecutive 300+ yard games to start the season has Peyton looking like a fixture in this column.<\/p>\n

2. Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh<\/strong> – Another 3 TD\u2019s on Sunday – Ben has his team working on all cylinders right now.\u00a0 Worries about a soft Offensive Line have been put to rest and Ben is throwing with confidence and accuracy worthy of an MVP (if it wasn\u2019t for Peyton Manning).<\/p>\n

3. Kyle Orton – Denver <\/strong>– 7 TD’s this season so far and only 1 interception – Orton has his team believing.\u00a0 With Knowshon Moreno running the ball with confidence and Brandon Marshall shutting his mouth and doing his job, there is no reason for Kyle not to continue his Hot play.<\/p>\n

4. Rashard Mendenhall\u00a0 -Pittsburgh<\/strong> – Maybe all coaches could learn something from Mike Tomlin.\u00a0 Call out your supposed stars and good things will happen.\u00a0 After Tomlin\u2019s Week 3 tongue lashing, Mendenhall has rushed for 242 yards and 3 TD\u2019s in 2 games.\u00a0 Willie Parker seems to be a thing of the past in Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

5. Ronnie Brown – Miami<\/strong> – Great game on National Television Monday Night\u00a0 – The Fins pulled out all of the stops – and Brown was the star.\u00a0 Such a fun offense to watch – all centered around getting Ronnie the ball.\u00a0 As long as Miami continues to create dynamic ways to utilize Brown, and he delivers like he did against the Jets – he will remain HOT!<\/p>\n

6. Cedric Benson – Cincinnati <\/strong>– Comeback player of the year – hands down.\u00a0 Benson has managed to navigate some of the toughest run Defenses in the NFL and has helped his team to the division lead.\u00a0 Week 5 saw Benson become the 1st<\/sup> 100 yard rusher allowed by the Ravens in 30+ games.\u00a0 The Work Horse doesn\u2019t seem to be slowing down – that\u2019s for sure!<\/p>\n

7. Ray Rice – Baltimore –<\/strong> A true multi-purpose Back who\u2019s rushing totals almost mirror his receiving ones.\u00a0 Week 4, Rice had 152 combined yards, Week 5, 143 combined yards.\u00a0 That\u2019s Hot!!<\/p>\n

8. Steve Smith – NY Giants<\/strong> – As hot as they come in the NFL – Smith has averaged just over 7 catches and 96 yards in the Giants 1st<\/sup> 5 games.\u00a0 He has also found the end zone 4 times.\u00a0 With 2 certain shoot-outs coming up against New Orleans and Arizona, Smith will be called upon often.<\/p>\n

9. Brandon Marshall – Denver <\/strong>– HOT!!\u00a0 Marshall seems to be willing his team to victory and after a rocky start to the season – he appears to be rounding into form and re-establishing himself as one of the elite pass catchers in the game.\u00a0 Marshall has scored 4 TD\u2019s in the last 3 games and is delivering huge grabs when the game is on the line.\u00a0 You don\u2019t have to like Marshall, but you do have to appreciate his talent and obvious love for the game.<\/p>\n

10. Larry Fitzgerald – Arizona<\/strong> – It seems that the bye week is what Fitz needed in order to refocus.\u00a0\u00a0 Although he hasn\u2019t been that bad this season, his #s were more like a 2nd<\/sup> tier Wideout.\u00a0 Week 5 changed all of that – 5 catches, 79 yards and 2 TD\u2019s are more like the numbers we expect from Larry.\u00a0 Games against Seattle and the Giants will prove how Hot Fitzgerald really is.<\/p>\n

11. Heath Miller – Pittsburgh<\/strong> – 13 catches, 124 yards and 3 tds. in the last 2 games for this emerging Stud Tight End.\u00a0 Games against Cleveland and Minnesota won\u2019t slow him down as long as Big Ben remains Hot!<\/p>\n

Honorable mention<\/strong> – Matt Hasselbeck (welcome back – we missed you) : Donovan McNabb (Ditto) : Matt Ryan : Adrian Peterson : Michael Turner : Roddy White : Miles Austin : Jeremy Maclin<\/p>\n

NOT<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

1. JaMarcus Russell – Oakland<\/strong> – Bust of the Century!!\u00a0 I can\u2019t talk about him anymore.<\/p>\n

2. Derek Anderson – Cleveland<\/strong> – 2 completions for 23 yards?\u00a0 You gotta be kidding me.\u00a0 Nothing in the Cleveland organization is Hot – not even their cheer leaders!<\/p>\n

3. Trent Edwards – Buffalo<\/strong> – I feel sorry for you Bills fans.\u00a0 Edwards has more interceptions than he does TD\u2019s so far this year.\u00a0\u00a0 In the last 2 games (against Miami and Cleveland), he has managed only 1 td. and 4 interceptions!\u00a0 That\u2019s Not Hot. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

4. Larry Johnson – Kansas City<\/strong> – When will the coaching staff get it and move on from the train wreck named Larry Johnson?\u00a0 Johnson\u2019s highest output of the season came in week 2 – 78 yards on 24 carries.\u00a0 Add in the fact that he still hasn\u2019t scored a td. this season and there is only one conclusion – LJ is Not Hot.<\/p>\n

5. Oakland RB\u2019s –<\/strong> Teams are not scared of JaMarcus Russell AT ALL and unless he demonstrates the ability to throw the ball down field, opposing Defenses will have an east time bottling up Oakland\u2019s ground game.\u00a0 And for that reason I don\u2019t see the situation in Oakland heating up any time soon.<\/p>\n

6. Fred Jackson – Buffalo<\/strong> – What the hell happened to Fred Jackson?\u00a0 A threat to run and catch in the first 3 week has been virtually silent since.\u00a0 A 68 combined yard effort in Week 4 and a 47 combined yard showing in Week 5 makes Fred Jackson Fantasy irrelevant.<\/p>\n

7. Marion Barber – Dallas<\/strong> – After sitting out Week 3, Barber returned with a 41 yard effort against Denver and he managed only 53 yards against the woeful Chiefs.\u00a0 With Felix Jones possible returning after the Week 6 bye and with Tashard Choice earning more playing time as the better Back, Barber\u2019s Hot days might be over.<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 Buffalo WR\u2019s<\/strong> – See a Not Hot pattern here?\u00a0 Buffalo is a BAD team!\u00a0 Terrell Owens had a season high 4 catches in Week 5 – A SEASON HIGH 4 grabs!\u00a0 Lee Evans isn\u2019t even in the same area code as the rest of the team.\u00a0 If you start any Buffalo Offensive player, you deserve to lose.<\/p>\n

9. Randy Moss – New England<\/strong> – After a great Week 3 game, Moss has only manage a combined 4 catches in the next 2.\u00a0 Moss\u2019 inconsistent play clearly makes him worthy of the Not Hot list don\u2019t you think?<\/p>\n

10. Roy Williams – Dallas<\/strong> – Maybe sounds a bit unfair to have him here considering he didn\u2019t play this week, but the combination of ineffectiveness, injury, and the emergence of new weapons in Dallas leaves a lot of doubt whether or not Williams will regain his starting role for his team.<\/p>\n

Honorable Mention <\/strong>goes mostly to players on teams with a bye (and who were mentioned in last week\u2019s Hot and Not).<\/p>\n

Drew Brees – shouldn\u2019t continue, LaDainlian Tomlinson – should continue, and all Bears WR\u2019s.
