Time:<\/strong> Sunday 1:05 ET Actually, the Giants\u2019 schedule leading up to the Saints game has featured one JV team after another. The combined won-loss record of New York\u2019s five opponents is 6-10, and you\u2019d think that New York (5-0) would finally welcome playing a game against a team that won\u2019t be in the running for the top overall pick in next April\u2019s college draft.<\/p>\n They\u2019ll get that, and more, against New Orleans (4-0). Drew Brees got off to a fiery start and still is the early front-runner for MVP even though he\u2019s gone a couple of games without a touchdown pass. The Saints are scoring 38 points a game, on a pace that would obliterate the NFL\u2019s single-season scoring record somewhere around Week 16. He has all the weapons he needs \u2013\u2013 a strong running game, excellent wideouts and an offensive line that kept Brees off the ground for 60 minutes in their Week 4 signature victory over the Jets.<\/p>\n This is easily the most important game to be played in the Big Easy since the 2006 Saints made their unlikely run to the NFC Championship game by beating Philadelphia at home (they lost in Chicago the next week). It also marks the first game in New Orleans for Louisiana native and NY quarterback Eli Manning. Manning was slated to play in the Superdome in 2005, but Hurricane Katrina had other ideas.<\/p>\n Manning will be looking across scrimmage at a defense much improved from the one that gave up 25 points a game last season as the Saints limped to an 8-8 record that was good for last place in the NFC South. Coordinator Gregg Williams has instilled aggressiveness in the troops, and New Orleans is now ranked 6th in the league (it would be higher if Washington were not playing a strong of terrible teams with no offenses). Anchored by a front 7 that has yielded only 84 yards a game on the ground, NO has given up only 16.5 points a game. Heady stuff.<\/p>\n New York will see that and raise with the league\u2019s No. 1 defense, plus an offensive line that is also among the best.
