The Jets certainly didn’t embarrass themselves in losing their first game of the season, though rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez struggled mightily, throwing three interceptions. The Saints have a bye in Week 5 while the Jets will need a solid effort in order to beat a rejuvenated Miami Dolphins team that apparently found themselves in a huge Week 5 win over Buffalo.

Giants 27 Chiefs 16

Not much to write about here with two teams that are worlds apart in talent and on-field results. The G-Men dominated a clearly overmatched Chiefs squad that looks as inept as ever under rookie head coach Todd Haley who is probably wondering at this point why he took the Chiefs’ head job. New York has another cakewalk contest in Week 5 at home against Oakland while the Chiefs will almost assuredly fall to an uninspiring Dallas Cowboys team at home.

Patriots 27 Ravens 21

While they are clearly not firing on all cylinders, the New England Patriots are finding ways to win and have played some excellent defense this season. Once the Patriots find their collective stride, they could really take off in the AFC. The Baltimore Ravens, even in defeat, showed they are going to be a serious contender for the AFC title this season. The Ravens have a tough AFC North home date against Cincinnati while New England will have its hands full with a Broncos team that apparently doesn’t want to let anyone into the end zone this season.

49ers 35 Rams 0

After watching the San Francisco 49ers’ jaw-dropping transformation under head coach Mike Singletary, I have only one question. What took so long for someone to realize that he’s as special as a head coach as he was as a Hall of Fame linebacker? Frisco looks like the best team in the NFC West while first-year St. Louis head coach Steve Spagnuolo looks like he’s going to pull his hair out with his absolutely abysmal team regressing week after week. The Niners will have their hands full with Atlanta visiting the Bay Area in Week 5 while the Rams take another loss on the chin at home against Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.

Broncos 17 Cowboys 10

I always admit when I’m wrong and clearly I judged Broncos rookie head coach Josh McDaniels far too soon – and too harshly following what appeared to be an unstable preseason period. Denver’s defense has been absolutely phenomenal this season and quarterback Kyle Orton has been very solid managing a Broncos offense I think will get better as the regular season moves along. The Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Tony Romo in particular, are proving to be over-hyped and overmatched. The Broncos will be involved in a knock-down, drag-out affair at home against New England while Dallas gets back in the win column at lowly Kansas City.

Colts 34 Seahawks 17

Ho-hum. The Colts are looking fantastic even after losing beloved head coach Tony Dungy to retirement while the Seahawks desperately need veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck back in the saddle if they are going to make any noise in the NFC West this season. Indianapolis hits the road to take on a Titans team this is a shocking 0-4 this season while Seattle will have to try really hard to avoid a fourth straight loss with Jacksonville visiting.

Jaguars 37 Titans 17

The Jaguars laid a big-time smackdown on a Titans team that has some serious issues at this point and have an excellent shot at winning their third consecutive game when they hit the road to face Seattle while Tennessee could very well fall to 0-5 with a home date against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.

Redskins 16 Buccaneers 13

While someone had to win this contest, both Washington and Tampa Bay are heading nowhere fast this season – and are clearly in need of some serious changes – likely starting with their respective head coaches. The Bucs head to Philadelphia in Week 5 where they will almost certainly get pounded while the Redskins should at least have a chance at lackluster Carolina.

Bengals 23 Browns 20

Carson Palmer has been rock-solid late in games and although the Cincinnati Bengals have some blemishes and play in the tough AFC North with Baltimore and Pittsburgh, the Bengals look like they plan on making a strong bid for a postseason berth after getting off to a fine 3-1 start. Even in a losing effort, Cleveland looked better than they have all season long and had better start Derek Anderson for the remainder of the season if they want to have any chance at approaching eight wins. Cincinnati hits the road to take on a Ravens team that will likely be in a foul mood after dropping their first game of the season in Week 4 while the Browns should at least have a shot at beating a disappointing Buffalo Bills team.

Texans 29 Raiders 6

Houston looks like they may be headed toward the first winning season in franchise history while Oakland has become a total laughingstock of a franchise that needs a new quarterback and head coach. Houston will hook up in an offensive affair at Arizona in Week 5 while the Raiders should just stay home and chalk up a loss as they hit the road to face the undefeated G-Men.

Bears 48 Lions 24

The Bears look like they are starting to find themselves and quarterback Jay Cutler is proving that he’s as courageous as he is strong-armed. Detroit’s offensive line is a mess which is one of the reasons why I suggested they start veteran Daunte Culpepper in place f rookie Matthew Stafford to start the season. After watching Stafford narrowly escape what could have been a serious knee injury in Week 4, I’d be very worried if I were Lions head coach Jim Schwartz. Chicago has a bye in Week 5 while the Lions will fall at home to Pittsburgh.

Dolphins 38 Bills 10

The Bills are one of the biggest disappointments so far this season and I’m thinking it may be time to part ways with head coach Dick Jauron while Miami looked phenomenal in recording its first win of the season. Buffalo will have a very good chance of getting back in the win column in Week 5 with the Cleveland Browns visiting while Miami hooks up in a thriller Monday night matchup against the division-rival New York Jets.

The NFL odds are up on which teams will win the NFL in the 2009-2010 season!
