2008 Record: 0-16 The good news for the Detroit Lions is that the Matt Millen era in Detroit is over. The better news is that the Matthew Stafford era in Detroit begins. Their offense needed less work, but the addition of guys like Maurice Morris, Bryant Johnson, Dennis Northcutt and Brandon Pettigrew will help out the team\u2019s depth significantly. On defense, the Lions had a complete overhaul. The cornerback crop has been renovated and players like Philip Buchanon and Anthony Henry should serve as upgrades over last year\u2019s tandem. At linebacker, the addition or Larry Foote and Julian Peterson – in combination with holdover Ernie Sims \u2013 finally gives the Lions some playmakers in the middle of the field, which is something they haven\u2019t had in a long time.<\/p>\n Upfront, the Lions also added tackle Grady Jackson to a unit that includes Dewayne White and young stud Cliff Avril. Considering how porous this defense was last year, the new front office in Detroit has done a really good job to replenish the roster.<\/p>\n The Lions are no longer a bargain basement team. They have talent, they have upside and they have a head coach who knows what to do. With a rookie quarterback running the show, the Lions will have to expect some growing pains and some mistakes. \nMore importantly than just that, the Lions have had an excellent offseason rebuilding their roster.<\/p>\n
\nStafford has looked very sharp in training camp and with an improved offensive line, this could be a very competent offense. We know about Calvin Johnson and up-and-comer Kevin Smith, and with plenty of other reliable veterans surrounding Stafford, this offense should be greatly improved.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
