The D-Line will be especially dominant this season as everyone returns and the Jints have brought coals to Newcastle by adding Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard to a rotation already loaded with Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, Mathias Kiwanuka, Barry Cofield and Fred Robbins.

The linebacking group wasn’t all that great last season, and New York is hoping to bleed one last season out of veteran Antonio Piece. Newcomer Michael Boley adds some depth. Corey Webster heads a secondary that’s equal to any in the NFC East.

Giants bloggers are starting to whine for the return of Plaxico Burress, and in a way you can’t blame them for wanting Tom Coughlin to put his tail between his legs and welcome back the unrepentant handgun-toting wide receiver. NY was 11-1 with Burress and 1-4 without him last season. But the Jints sent out a strong signal by drafting WR Hakeem Nicks No. 1, and they also like 2008 reserve Domenik Hixon (43 catches for 596 yards in only 7 games).

Six-foot-four Brandon Jacobs is the lead running back, and with Derrick Ward now in Tampa Bay, Ahmad Bradshaw should get at least a few hundred carries. The Giants will be a run-first team if for no other reason than they don’t seem to completely trust QB Eli Manning, who has the third-worst completion average in the NFL over the past three seasons and has never reached 61 percent in a full year.

Surprising stat: The Giants did not score a special-teams touchdown last season, and didn’t allow one.

Team strengths: The D-Line’s signature is all over the Giants’ Super Bowl triumph over the Patriots a few years back, and nothing much has changed. They have depth that 31 other franchises can only dream about.

Team Weakness: It may be time for teams to start stacking the box defensively, choking off the running game and forcing Manning to throw the ball to untested wide receivers.

Giants 2009 Season Win Total Prediction – 12

Next Up: Pittsburgh Steelers

Ready to start NFL Football Betting Online today?

CLICK HERE TO JOIN betED.COM – ONE OF OUR TOP RATED ONLINE SPORTSBOOKS – 15% SIGN UP BONUS FOR SPORTS BETTING ONLINE

Lawrence Paul is a regular contributor to the Cappers Picks Blog, and is a free-lance gambling and travel writer from Massachusetts.

Quick article by Lawrence Paul detailing the N.Y.
