Preview:<\/strong> Road courses – most NASCAR fans either love ’em or hate ’em, but not too many feel indifferent about them.\u00a0 Either way, the 36-race Cup season includes two road courses per year – Infineon in Sonoma, California, and Watkins Glen in upstate New York.\u00a0 Both will feature the so-called ‘ringers’ – road course racing specialists who give struggling teams an opportunity for a big points day, though not necessarily a win.<\/p>\n

Safe Bets:<\/h3>\n

1. Kyle Busch (+550):<\/strong> Busch might be relatively young compared to some of the sport’s veterans, but he clearly isn’t intimated by the challenge of a road course.\u00a0 He won this race last year, leading 78 of 112 laps and winning by a margin of almost two seconds.<\/p>\n

2. Jeff Gordon (+600): <\/strong> Gordon has been dominant in Sonoma in the past, winning five races here including three straight from 1998-2000, along with wins in 2004 and 2006.\u00a0 Tony Stewart is the only other active driver with more than one Infineon win and he has just two compared to Gordon’s five.<\/p>\n

Dark Horse:<\/h3>\n

1. Greg Biffle (+3000): <\/strong>Although Biffle hasn’t won a race here, he’s been consistent both at Sonoma and overall this season.\u00a0 After running out of gas in his first Infineon race in 2003, Biff’s average finish is 7.0 in the five subsequent races and he leads all drivers in points accumulated over that time period.\u00a0 Biffle is coming off a strong run at Michigan before running out of gas on the last lap.<\/p>\n

Summary: <\/strong> The result may come down to fuel mileage again this week, so teams that are good at playing the fuel strategy game may have the upper hand.\u00a0 It will be a challenge for all the teams to deal with the new double-file restart rule on a road course.<\/p>\n
