Los Angeles<\/h3>\n

Zach Greinke got hit hard but the Dodgers finished off their series with the Phillies with a victory. They are playing good ball having won six of seven. The Dodgers pitching may attract all of the attention but they are in the top half of scoring teams in the Majors.<\/p>\n

They might be scoring even more if they were getting consistent production from their big boppers other than Adrian Gonzalez. Instead they have been relying on the likes of Justin Turner and Yasmany Grandal. \u00a0I am not sure how long they can keep that up.<\/p>\n

Early in the season people were wondering what is wrong with Clayton Kershaw but we haven’t been hearing that much lately. He has not given up a run in his last four starts and leads the Majors in strikeouts so I think any concerns might have been a little premature. If you are going to bet against him the place to do so is on the road where he is more mortal.<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh<\/h3>\n

The Pirates just split a two game with the Cubs, who are chasing them. This is another big series over the weekend but the really big one comes after when they visit St. Louis. They are going for it this season but can’t get caught looking too far ahead.<\/p>\n

The Pirates have been winning with pitching all season long but their lineup has potential. Since dealing for Aramis Ramirez they have not been getting much as he re-acclimates to Pittsburgh. They need him and a few others to step up their game down the stretch.<\/p>\n

Gerrit Cole is leading the Majors with 14 wins and the Pirates are 15-6 when he starts this season. He has finally arrived this season as his ERA is a scant 2.36. He has finally become the ace of the staff.<\/p>\n

Despite those credentials the Pirates are still the underdogs here (thanks to Kershaw). The Pirates have never been a dog with Cole on the hill this season which makes this game very intriguing. I think you almost have to go with Pitt. A situation like this might not happen again this season.<\/p>\n
