The\u00a0San Francisco 49ers\u00a0<\/strong>enter the\u00a02015-16 NFL Season\u00a0<\/strong>as the big losers of the offseason. The hope following the conclusion of 2014-15 was that an 8-8 season was going to be an anomaly of a down year, but\u00a0there’s virtually no scenario where you can make the case a bounce-back year is in order for this group from the Bay Area.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 2014 Record: 8-8 – 49ers<\/a><\/strong> Let\u2019s take a look at the numbers:<\/strong><\/p>\n Head coach Jim Harbaugh is gone, and while many saw that move taking place,\u00a0so is\u00a0offensive coordinator Greg Roman and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. To make matters worse, Patrick Willis, Chris Borland, Justin Smith and Anthony Davis all retired. Mike Iupati, Chris Culliver and Perrish Cox, Michael Crabtree and\u00a0Frank Gore have all departed\u00a0through free agency.<\/p>\n That is an unreal list of departures, and it’s going to make for a tough transition in 2014-15.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=63753&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n Offensively,\u00a0Colin Kaepernick looks as if he’ll be most affected by Harbaugh’s departure, and that’s an even bigger problem than it seems consider the down year\u00a0Kaep had in 2014-15. This team really can’t afford to have its lead man behind center take another step in the wrong direction, but barring an unforeseen improvement, that’s exactly what will happen.<\/p>\n The good news for Kaepernick is that\u00a0Torrey Smith has made his way to the Bay\u00a0to step in for Crabtree, so not all hope is lost on that side of the ball. Unfortunately,\u00a0Smith was second in the NFL last year in dropped passes. Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis likely need to step up to make up the difference there — or, ya know: Smith could just not drop as many balls this season. San Francisco fans everywhere would welcome that concept with open arms.<\/p>\n On the ground,\u00a0Reggie Bush is set to play in the backfield with\u00a0Carlos Hyde. But like\u00a0just about everything else on this side of the ball,\u00a0the rushing game\u00a0has a question mark at the end of it.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=66501&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n Defensively,\u00a0this group doesn’t resemble anything close to the squad that earned elite status really not all that long ago.\u00a0The 49ers have lost six starters from this side of the ball from last season.<\/p>\n Another departure not mentioned above is\u00a0Ray McDonald. He was let go from the roster\u00a0after his third arrest for domestic violence. The release was necessary for PR (and other moral) reasons, but you can’t deny the hit this team has taken by letting yet another player go this offseason.<\/p>\n Bovada has San Francisco at 7.5 wins this next season, but that just seems high at this point in the process. Five or six wins seems more reasonable, as does a last-place finish in a division housing the Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals and the improving St. Louis Rams.<\/p>\n [dfads params=’groups=63752&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]<\/p>\n Any time your defense takes a step down, that’s a problem. Same story on offense.
