The more you read about trends and angles the more you can get confused with making a profitable NFL pick. Over the years I have been successful in utilizing trends and angles as a part of my NFL picks handicapping arsenal. One such slant on these trends that has been useful is that of the head coaches. Yes, the players are the ones who ultimately excute the coaches NFL picks game plan but it is that coach whose tendencies can be bet on profitably.

Jay Cutler continues to throw interceptions:

Bears fans all thought Jay Cutler was their savior when he first came to town but once again made a number of mental mistakes that ultimately cost his team the game. Cutler threw for over 300 yards but was picked off by the San Francisco defense FIVE times! On the year, Cutler has now thrown more interceptions than touchdowns. He has 14 TD passes and a whopping 17 interceptions. The Bears drove the ball down inside the ten at the end of the game but when the Bears needed a big play out of their franchise quarterback, he threw another interception in the end zone.

Oakland, St. Louis, and Tampa Bay can’t cover any number:

The Oakland Raiders were 15.5 point road underdogs against the New York Giants this past Sunday and got beaten to a bloody pulp, losing 44-7. Their offense is just plain awful. They are averaging 9.8 points per game and only 191.6 yards of total offense. JaMarcus Russell, the former number one overall pick, is a total bust as he thrown only 1 touchdown pass in the first five games. Defensively, the Raiders aren’t much better, giving up 26 points per game.

Saints get signature win and look like an elite team:

The New Orleans Saints took on the undefeated New York Jets this past Sunday and came away with a 14 point victory as 7 point home favorites. It appears that no one can stop the balanced offense of the New Orleans Saints, not even Rex Ryan’s attacking 3-4 defense. Drew Brees didn’t have a big day numbers wise as he only threw for 190 yards and one touchdown but he made the big play in crunch time. With Pierre Thomas back healthy the Saints were able to show that the Saints are not just a passing team.

The annual NFL betting grand finale called the Super Bowl is now set, and the matchup is as improbable as the wild season that gave us this year’s participants.

Late Season NFL Adjustments

The Kansas City Chiefs aren’t going to make the playoffs and have had a train wreck season. This wasn’t unexpected. A local writer for the KC Star pointed out, “The Chiefs aren’t built to win football games. They’re built to be $32 million under the salary cap while Arrowhead Stadium undergoes renovation.”
