The Twins finally caught up to the Tigers on Saturday, and they did not back off on Sunday winning while the Tigers won with Justin Verlander on the hill. Now it comes down to a tie breaker on Tuesday night between these two teams. The Twins won 11 of the 18 match ups this season and were 7-2 in Minnesota where they will be on Tuesday.

The skipper of the 33-50 Cleveland Indians – last in the American League and 21.50 units in the red – got the kiss of death from GM Mark Shapiro on Sunday, in the form of a public vote of confidence. “The responsibility is spread equally throughout the players, the front office, Eric and his staff,” Shapiro told MLB.com.

Baseball fans got a very rare treat Sunday night when New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera came up to bat for just the third time in his career – against New York Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez, no less. The Yankees were up 3-2 with the bases loaded and two out in the top of the ninth. Rivera had come out of the bullpen in the previous inning, and wasn’t going to be pulled for a pinch-hitter.

Baseball’s second full weekend in May features several intriguing series’ between divisional mates, as well as a matchup between a surprising early front runner and an expected contender that is still finding its feet in ‘09.
With the usual 15 MLB matchups slated each day, it figures to be an exciting weekend on the diamond.

The Montreal Expos retired Dawson’s No. 10 uniform in 1997; the man they call Hawk spent the first 11 of his 21 MLB seasons in Quebec before winning the National League MVP award in 1987 with the Chicago Cubs. Baseball’s third weekend of the 2009 season offers up the first meeting between the sports biggest rivals, the Yankees and Red Sox.
Nothing says “intense baseball” more than when these two teams get together. Most often it doesn’t even matter what the clubs’ records are, the disdain with which they view one another trumps all.
In this case, both teams come in playing well, so it should be an exciting three-game set.
Yankees and Red Sox. Red Sox and Yankees. If you’re one of the many baseball fans out there who could do quite nicely without having these two teams marketed down your throats year after year, now could be your chance for some payback. Literally.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were stuck in neutral until they acquired a player who might just be the best right-handed hitter in Major League Baseball history. They were a small-ball team until they acquired Manny Ramirez at the trade deadline last season but now that he’s here for the long haul, MLB betting fans know that the Dodgers will be as well.
