In what will be one of the marquee matchups in all of college football this weekend, the USC Trojans are set to host the No. 4 Oregon Ducks. The game doesn’t have the same flare that it had when the year started, as the Trojans are no longer BCS title contenders, but that doesn’t mean they’re not looking to spoil the Ducks’ season. Despite both teams being top-25 defensive squads, this game could feature a lot of points.
The Washington State Cougars will travel to Rice-Eccles Stadium this weekend to take on the Utah Utes, and while neither team has excelled this season, both squads are coming off promising performances, even though only one of them got the win. This matchup wasn’t made for prime time television, but those who like to see the ball fly through the air should tune in.
Are you ready for some basketball? I hope so, because the NBA kicks off this week. We’ll get a full season of the NBA, unlike last year when it was a strike-shortened season.
The Grizzlies have turned around their franchise from also ran to making the playoffs but you have to wonder if this group can really expect to make the next step.
Everyone expected the Clippers to improve greatly last season and they didn’t disappoint. When the Chris Paul saga ended with him in LA for the Clippers Lob City was born and they rode that energy all the way to the playoffs before getting swept by the more experience Spurs.
The Tigers finally got their first SEC victory last week. I thought they would be able to compete better in the SEC this inaugural year but it has not turned out that way. Lucky for them Kentucky came to town…and everybody beats the Wildcats.

Golden State has been floundering as a franchise for a while. Last year was disappointing especially down the stretch as they got nothing out of their trade of top scorer Monta Ellis.
Week 8 is over – Week 9 is just around the corner. It’s time to see which teams rose and which fell this week on Dave B’s NFL Power Rankings. There wasn’t a whole lot of change at the top for the second week in a row – the elite teams are finally doing what they are supposed to do! Still as always there was some fluidity with the Rankings.
Going into last weekend, the Ohio Bobcats were unbeaten and in the top 25 for the first time in school history. The Bobcats lost a heart breaker 23-20 at Miami (Ohio) last weekend.
The Chiefs lost their 4th in a row last Sunday and things don’t get much easier with back to back road games against San Diego and Pittsburgh.
In what will be the first nationally televised broadcast of the 2012-13 season, the NBA is starting things off right with an Eastern Conference matchup between the rival Boston Celtics and Miami Heat.
The Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks have established a rich history over the past decade, but these two rivals are both bringing in new-look rosters into the 2012-13 season. The season opener in Los Angeles is going to be a showcase of the two new rotations, and it will be broadcast for the national audience to see on the first night of the new season.
I think I always like the Gators a little more than I should. Last year I loved their deep backcourt and they rode it to a second place finish in the SEC and some tournament success.
Kansas is always good it seems. Last year there was some concern because of all the players they lost but they won yet another Big 12 title and collected more than 30 victories once again.
The Memphis Tigers are clearly the class of Conference USA. They are blessed with quite a bit of talent and for the first time in years some experience too as they will likely start a senior, 3 juniors and a sophomore.
