2015-2016 Football Previews (Big Ten)- Hoosiers
The Indiana Hoosiers seem to be slightly more competitive under Kevin Wilson, but the bottom line results haven’t been there. Indiana hasn’t been to a bowl game in Wilson’s four years.

Big Ten 2015-2016 College Football Preview – Indiana Hoosiers
Head Coach: Kevin Wilson
2014 Record: 4-8

The Hoosiers have only been to one bowl game since 1993. While expectations are never as high here as they are for the Indiana football program, Wilson needs to get this team to a bowl game soon or he will be on the hot seat.
Last year’s Indiana team fell victim to some major injury problems, especially at the quarterback spot. After Nate Sudfeld went down, the team essentially had zero passing game. Tevin Coleman carried the load as best he could, but the Indiana defense continued to struggle.

Indiana has one of the easiest schedules in the Big Ten this year, so that gives them hope. Can this be the year Indiana makes a bowl game?
Team Strengths:
Indiana’s passing attack will get a big boost from the return of Nate Sudfeld. Sudfeld is a senior who knows this system really well. He will spread the ball around and make good decisions for this offense. The fact that he went down with an injury last year also makes their depth at quarterback this year much better. Zander Diamont is a capable backup who is now battle tested.
Even with Tevin Coleman leaving, I still expect the Indiana running game to be good. Jordan Howard transferred in from UAB. Howard was a first team Conference USA performer, and he should fit well into this system. The Hoosiers offensive line is also good, which is obviously important for the running attack.
In a relative sense, Indiana has a good defensive line this year. While this unit still has a long way to go to be up there with the best in the league, they are clearly moving quickly in the right direction.

They allowed 4.9 yards per carry last year after giving up 5.4 the year before. Expect another improvement here.
Team Weaknesses:
The Indiana secondary is terrible. Opponents completed almost 62% of their passes last year, and this year’s secondary looks even worse on paper. There are plenty of excellent quarterbacks in the Big Ten, and I see this secondary being picked apart on a weekly basis. This is a major problem area.
Indiana’s leading returning receiver had 18 catches last year. While Sudfeld is a good quarterback, it will be tough for this team to maximize his productivity unless they can find some playmakers on the outside. Wide receiver was a strength for Indiana a couple years, but now it’s a weakness.
Indiana’s linebackers are another weak spot. Chris Covington played at quarterback last year, but he has been switched over to linebacker now because of the lack of depth at this spot. Only T.J. Simmons has any real experience at the linebacker position.
Indiana Hoosiers 2015-2016 Prediction: 6-7
I’ll call for Indiana to squeak into a bowl game and then lose. This team should be better, but part of the reason I’m calling for a bowl berth is their weak schedule. There’s a real opportunity here to be 4-0 at the start of the season because of the weak non-conference slate. They’ll probably need to win one of their last two games at Maryland and at Purdue to make a bowl game.

The Hoosiers won’t be competitive against the best in the conference, but they make a small improvement.
