Amazingly the Spurs have been better on the road than at home with a 17-5 record. It is numbers like that that makes them such a dangerous team. They closed the gap late against Washington last night to force overtime.

The Spurs were hoping to get more production from Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green this season but it hasn’t materialized. Leonard is on the shelf right now and Green has been in a shooting slump most of the season, resulting in a scoring average worse than last year. Those results mean that this team is as dependent on Tony Parker and Tim Duncan as ever. Shooter Marco Bellinelli has also become an important weapon.

That 17-5 road record translates to a 13-9 ATS record so backing the Spurs in these situations has definitely been profitable. Other than San Antonio playing the day after an overtime game it is hard to justify not backing the Spurs in this spot as long as they are not much more than a 3 point favourite.
Brooklyn
Brooklyn is lucky to be in the Atlantic Division where their sub .500 record has them in second place and in reasonable position to try and make the playoffs. They have been playing better since the turn of the calendar and snapped a three game losing streak on Monday against Philadelphia. Like San Antonio this is an older team and they will have the advantage of rest with the Spurs playing Wednesday night.
The Nets are hoping that leading scorer Joe Johnson will be back in the lineup Thursday. He was supposed to be a complementary player but with Brook Lopez out and Deron Williams struggling he has taken on a more prominent role. Key to the Nets resurgence though has been the greatly improved play of Paul Pierce. I have always been a fan of The Truth but early on he and fellow former Celtic were terrible.
Brooklyn is nothing special against the spread and they have covered just twice in their last 6 games. The Spurs spanked them on New Years eve and the Nets have lost their last 6 to San Antonio, covering only once. Truth be told I have been steering clear of Brooklyn this season. I just don’t trust Jason Kidd as the coach.
