Florida vs Missouri NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping

The No. 22 Florida Gators arrive in Columbia to face an unbeaten No. 14 Missouri Tigers team on Saturday in SEC college football action.

The Gators are a small -3 1/2 point road favorite over Missouri, which is coming off its biggest win in years. But the win came at a huge price, losing quarterback James Franklin to a shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, Florida is looking to get back on the rails after being manhandled at LSU last week in just the team’s second loss of the season.

The Gators have one of the nation’s best defenses, but the offense has struggled, averaging just over 20 points and 367 yards  per game average.

Running back Mack Brown, who is averaging 3.7 yards per carry with three touchdowns, led the Gators anemic offense, rushing  for 56 yards for Florida, while quarterback Tyler Murphy threw for 115 yards for the Gators against the Tigers. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Murphy has completed 66 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and an interception and he has also rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns this season, but poor handling of he football has hurt that Gators, as they have turned the ball over 10 times through  their first six contests of the 2013 campaign.

Meanwhile, the defense is allowing just a meager 13 points and 235 yards per game with eight interceptions, six fumble recoveries and 11 sacks. Meaning the Gators are going to go as far as their defense takes them.

Hopefully, that will be a win over a Tigers team that will have to go with backup quarterback Maty Mauk on Saturday. The redshirt freshman played well and led two late scoring drives in the Tigers’ 41-26 win over Georgia last time out.

Missouri’s offense is rolling, averaging 46 points per game and 515 yards, behind running back Russell Hansbrough who leads Mizzou in rushing yards gained with 391 and he has three touchdowns.

Defensively, the Tigers are just as good, allowing 23 points per game with 13 interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 17 sacks.

Matt’s Free Prediction

Originally, I had already picked Missouri to win this one, but I am not sure they will be able to make up for the loss of Franklin.

I don’t think we’ll see much scoring in this one, and with two decent defenses this is screaming under.

My upset of the week.

Florida 28, Missouri 24
